Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to setup the Yamaha LS9 to my computer DAW over a Wifi / network connection through the standard Cat5 plug that is in the back of the mixer without having to purchase / use the I/O card slots.

I know this can be done for the iPad for the Stage Mix Software but I also simultaneously need to record multi-track on my computer for mastering/post-prod purposes after a live FOH type session. I dont want a combined track but a totally controllable mastering that I could do after recording the live session.

Let me know if this is possible!

No
You will need a card as the Cat5 does not include audio.
LS9-16 will need one...the 32 will need 2

Can you do a multi-track recording and be able to master each channel in post-production without using I/O slots at all? I dont want to purchase anything crazy here

WYSIWYG.  If you have enough available outputs from your desk to go to your recorder then yes, otherwise no.

You may find it cheaper to switch desks to one that can do recording internally than to outfit your LS9, though the ADAT cards are dropping in price, so if you're willing to get an ADAT interface for your computer and a couple MY-16AT cards, that could be another option.

As has been mentioned, the short answer is no.

If you must use the LS9, you'd need a mic splitter and computer interface with as many inputs as you need to record.

Many newer, less expensive consoles have a recording interface built in so it may be easier to change consoles than to stick with the LS9.

No.  RTFM.

Which consoles do you recommend?

......... so instead of purchasing the right card(s) to work in your LS9, you prefer to just purchase another entire console?

Which consoles do you recommend?

I presume recording is secondary use.  What is the primary use of this mixer?  FOH from music events?  Theater?  Corporate presentations?  How much fader real estate does your work flow require?

What equipment and software do you currently use and/or intend to use with a new console?

Are there any other special considerations - mechanical, physical or electro?

Depending on his needs, an Allen&Heath QU series or Behringer X32 series may be a better fit than outfitting the LS9 - non-Dante cards will require an IO interface on the PC plus the cards, and the Dante card(s) aren't cheap either.

The desks listed above can record direct to PC via USB which may be a cheaper overall solution.  Or not.
