So you're talking bottom cab right side up, top cab upside down??  And this works as long as they are matching cabs yes??  I'm only guessing that this allows the highs to all be produced from one source almost causing an array affect??

Forget the "array effect".  It simply minimizes the destructive interference by placing the drivers as close together as possible.

And yes, matching cabinets.

Killer, I'll try that sometime for sure. When I find another matching pair of SP5's.  I've also been looking into Alto SX112's.  Kinda liking what I'm hearing about the company.

Don't rule out a second pair of identical SP2s if you find another good deal (they're usually more plentiful used than SP5s).  All but the earliest versions will stack per Dick's suggestion.

As long as the units are from the same "era" of SP-2.  There have been several variations over the decades.

One of these days I want to round up a bunch of old Peavey gear and do a 400-500 capacity show just for the retro thrill of it...

Count me in as well.

There's a jazz series in a city park in downtown St Paul.  The larger evening events are on a mis-deployed and absolutely abysmal line-array system sounding more like a metal fabrication factory than music while the more casual Sunday afternoon events are done by an old hand still using old Peavey gear, albeit well maintained.

The Peavey beats the fancy stuff all to smithereens.
