I don't know - the sound on my TV cut out several times during Travis Scott's performance.

Same here.  It seemed almost was like it was being censored or something.

There was a halftime show? I thought they just turned the lights down for a few minutes during the game.

They must have something against country music singers.

Wait, there was a Superbowl?

They should have "censored" his entire set after the 1st mishap, pixelated his image, and sued for breach of contract.
The production seemingly went off without a hitch.

I actually wondered about that - if the "F-bombs" were preapproved or if it was a "so how are you going to stop me?".  I was waiting for the Caddy to start bouncing.

What is a super bowl?  Something for pipe smokers or a new toilet fixture for the bathroom?

I like to call it "The American Grey Cup"

But it still amazes me how they get all that gear setup so quickly. Part that impresses me the most is that they can have the talent ready to go in 6 minutes. PLACES!!. Whoa hold on I gotta hit the can/finish my makeup/finish my smoke/etc...

Was definitely censored, 2-3 times on our feed. Pretty sad that this "artist" (I use that term VERY lightly) can't just keep it clean for such a big performance.

They really should ditch this pop crap and get real musicians for the half time show.

As for the production, the pyro and lighting was great...sound was so-so, but not awful...the drones/balloon things that spelled stuff were cool.

The entire event is "pop crap" and frankly so is most of the audience.  That's why it's on TV.

Some highly organized ants there.

Some highly organized ants there.

In high school many many years ago we did a show (drama) that had an extremely elaborate set that for festival night shows (3 plays in one night on the same stage) would have to be setup in 10 minutes and tore down in 5 minutes....it was incredibly impressive all of the actors in costume moving and setting up the entire multi-level risers/flats/props/set and we had it down to something like 6 minutes. Not one theater we came to with the show believed it could be done in time.

Point of the story, anything extremely well planned and rehearsed can be done in WAY less time than you'd expect.

Some highly organized ants there.

After the first build and testing the set and strike are rehearsed several times; there are hundreds of people involved.

The final rehearsal is with talent performing and is recorded in case something goes sideways in the live performance or its underlying technologies.

RF is the really big deal.  I bet we know some folks from our Wireless and Communications forum who were busy the last couple of weeks.  :o

And to add insult to injury, the MLS Cup game a few months ago in the same venue had a higher attendance than the Super Bowl; 73k vs 70k...

Was there production seat kill, or did they *gasp* not sell out ?
Chris.

You mean the "Oops.  It was an accidental wardrobe malfunction" even though for some reason there was a giant pastie in place.  Same likelihood that she were wearing a white bra with "Save the whales" written across the cups.   :o  ;)

The 'malfunction' is that only one half came off.  Both were supposed to.

I think I'm in the minority here, but...

I thought Maroon 5 did a great job, especially given all of the challenges with a performance like the Super Bowl halftime. They go on, 100% cold, and have to get everyone into the performance as quickly as possible. They can't be too crazy, and they can't be too boring. They have to try to appeal to a world audience. And they get about 10-minutes to get it all done.

None of that even considers all of the political and environmental fallout that took place before the game... people were upset that the NFL didn't select an Atlanta-based performer as the headliner. Then performers turned down the gigs to show solidarity to Kaepernick, and there was an online petition to get Maroon 5 to drop the gig.

Rap isn't my favorite genre, but I don't absolutely hate it. And yes, the guys (presumably) used profanity in their performance. Ok. I did enjoy the incorporation of the Drum/Bugle Corp - that was pretty cool.

But musically... Maroon 5 seemed to do a good job. I've seen them in concert (opening for other acts) and I really enjoyed their shows. I don't own a single Maroon 5 album or track, but I appreciate what they do.

Again... probably in the minority here... but I don't quite understand all of the backlash and outrage over their performance.

Edit: I should also add - the taking off of the shirt was unnecessary. Not quite sure why he did that.

That's creepy.

I think he took the shirt off because the drapery no longer match the carpet... or he finally realized that a 1980s design flashback wasn't exactly contemporary no matter what he saw on the interwebs.

My theory was that he was in full Diva mode and was trying to have as many costume changes as possible, like all the big stars.

Just to clarify, I don't think there were a lot of 12 year old girls watching the superbowl.

Not at half time, anyway.  I think he had a new tatt and wanted to show off.

As for the Janet Jackson malfunction comparisons going around we can only ask "what have you done for me lately?"   ::)

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week!

What do you Americans put in these super bowls you have?

I saw a good spoof report on PA of the Day's Facebook page - "Superbowl half time show ruined by perfectly functioning sound system".

For myself, I put a nice Chili, Pasta, or heart warming Chicken Soup in my Supper Bowl. The other thing, i dunno. I'm a Canuk.
Our Toilet Bowl (Big Owe / Olympic Stadium / Money Pit) is a 10 minute walk from the house. No One can get a decent sound in that "bowl". Perfectly functioning or not...

Is a good football game measured by the score? Low score = shitty game? I watched the last quarter and thought it was pretty good. Of course you really should record it so you can fast forward through the 3 hours of commercials and talking while watching the 11 minutes of actual playtime.

I just watch the news later and get the highlights in two minutes.

Low scoring games are great games IF it is because of great defensive play and not inept offenses.  Who can score is better than who can stop a score.

I'm sure i can make any toilet bowl exceed local noise limits. You are right. It won't sound decent.
