First of all... forgive me for being an idiot/newb, please.   Very Happy

I used to be pretty involved in car audio about 4 years ago.  I still have a few aquaintences that are.  I'm seeing some intense designs for bass drivers... linear excursions of 4+ inches, rediculous magnet assemblies, exotic material construction, etc.

Then I see pro sound sub drivers with paper cones and suspension, a smaller amount of linear travel, what seem to be weaker packages.

My question is what is the distinction?  Obviously, the people that design these things know what their doing, but I'm not sure I understand why a tiny-ass honda civic cabin would warrant such extreme engineering while covering a crowd of 10,000 people doesn't?

Is it just marketing?  Is it an SPL vs. Quality sound kind of thing (I can't imagine a 12" sub moving 4" could possibly accurately recreate anything other than sine waves)?

Just a curiosity.   Razz

Yes.

We do this professionally, and don't have time to waste messing around trying to show everyone how large our genitalia may or may not be.
