Search Problem
« on: April 16, 2006, 03:15:41 PM »

I was trying to do a search for 01V96 and it returned no results.  I know I have used this string before without issues.  Ideas?

Thanks

The search code has been patched and will display searches with numbers in the string on new posts only.  Later tonight  when things die down we'll re index the forum so all searches in the current software archives will display properly.

Thanks, I see at least 1 post showing up on the search but still not getting previous posts.  Progress!

Having model numbers appear from previous posts in current searches isn't likely to happen due to engineering/time/budget issues.  It would be cheaper and easier to implement a standalone search engine/spider that would give better relevancy ratings.  I was a bit surprised to find out how many forum packages don't index numerical strings.

It's a pain the in ass it's not implemented but if you really need to you can use the Google site search feature to search Google's spidering of the site.

I can search using numbers or strings no problem, the catch is that posts indexed previous to the fix being implemented aren't included in the index due to an infrastructure issue.

I'd suggest using the site serch feature of Google which is likely to yield better results.  The forum search is a basic sql search with no weighing or ranking algorythm.
