LAB12 suitable for my 3m*2m*2m horn?
« on: February 06, 2006, 06:18:28 PM »

Hi,
Do you think that 1 or more LAB12 unit would be fine for my existing bass horns? (see picture on my web site).
This horn is 3m long, and has a 2m*2m mouth. I am currently using Altec 515-G in it and I wonder if I should buy and try LAB12?index.php/fa/3973/0/

Wow, now that is impressive.
If you can post the other dimensions for these horns, I’ll work up a suggestion for a driver arrangement and rear volume for this.
I need to know what the throat area is and what shape it is.
What is your low pass crossover point?
Do you know what the flare type is?
Post back and I’ll work on an answer.
These horn are cool, thanks for the photo!
Did you build them?
Best,

Tom Danley

Thanks for your proposition.
The troat is a 220mm*220mm square. Maximum rear volume is about 250 litres but it can be reduced.
The mouth is 1.8m*1.85m, the length is about 3m and the curve is a 38Hz exponential.
Both horns are coupling each other and standing on the floor. The ceiling and side walls are not far from the horn.

Yes I buil it myself 2 years ago. It is intended for hifi, not for high spl pro sound.
The midrange and treeble are not made yet, I am just using a single driver unit as mid/high unit but I will probably make a horn unit later. I have JBL 2451 and I need to choose a midrange, maybe JBL 2251 if I can get a pair.

The crossover point is not clearly determined, it could be 100Hz, 150Hz or 200Hz. I also made a digital delay line to compensate the length of the bass horn.

Yah I've seen your horns before somewheres.
Those are really cool.

I was going to suggest playing with Horn Resp but since Tom is on the case.  He could probably whip something up.

I don't know how Low your cut will be limited since the horn mouth couples to the floor but maybe you have some room behind them to make a fold and extend the length a little. to get lower extension.  Though I suppose your expansion constant really helps determine that.

Some of us can only dream.

Nice work.
