"Best" wireless micro headworn mic system?
« on: December 13, 2005, 01:12:24 AM »

Hi, I'm looking for the "best" wireless micro headworn mic system.  This includes the mic, transmitter, and receiver.  This will be for the typical intense singing/dancing routine for stage.  The mic has to be micro sized meaning very hard to see and not the clunky foam ball with the fat arm type.  The venues will primarily be domestic, and the wireless technology needs to be versatile/adaptable enough to work well automatically in city RF saturated environments.  The mic needs to work well for the male voice, and preferably be a durable condenser.  It also needs to stay put during the aforementioned intense dance routine.    Our budget is $2000.

Would anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks lots,

I just installed an eight pack of AKG 4000's with a Countryman E-6 and they love it.  Sounds good, looks great and very few issues in spite of being in R/F hell.  Meets your price point as well.

A lot of users of our wireless equipment seem to prefer the DPA headset mics for their sound quality, durability, and the way they stay put.

+1 for the DPA 4066 headsets.  Very natural sounding, durable, adjust and stay put very well with the double over the ear style harness.  I use them with the Audio Technica 4000 series wireless units and they work and sound great.

wireless transmitter / receiver?

Would anyone else recommend a wireless transmitter and receiver to be paired with a DPA headset?  I really have almost no clue about wireless technology.  Budget of about $1500.  Thanks again.

The DPA headsets would stay in place better than the Countryman mainly because they go behind the head and around both ears.  However we used the countryman in our christmas play this year at church and just used a little medical tape or bandaid to hold it in place.

As far as the Wireless system goes I would look into the EV RE-1 system it is designed for touring, I've seen a lot of major acts using them recently.  With 950 channels and EV's exclusive ClearScan feature it can't be beat.  currently at our church we are using the EV RE-2 system and within the next year we should be getting a few RE-1s with our new system.

I'm going to go with the DPA because it's the smallest and has the best "mounting system".

Any other tranceivers/receivers that you all think I should check out besides the AKG4000 and EV-1 series?

I need to make this purchase before the end of the year so any other recommendations will be very much appreciated!

Thanks much!
