Important! What eye color are 6:00am flights?
« on: December 05, 2022, 06:35:31 PM »

Ok, we all know that an overnight flight is a "red eye". Lately, I've had a LOT of early morning flights, where you have to get to the airport at 1 million o'clock in the morning to be on the plane when it leaves at 6:00...but what eye color is that? Some suggestions I've heard, so far are a "black eye" and a "pink eye" (which has the added negative appeal of the suggestion that you might also get conjunctivitis from your fellow passengers...). Me, I'm kinda' leaning towards that bruised, yellow-ish-green-ish color, but hey...totally open to suggestions. ???

When I flew home from tour, I had a 6am flight. It was an international flight so I had to be there at like 3am. Got to the US security portal even before those lazy ass TSA tards. My eyes were pretty red. Luckily I was in first class the whole way home so I just put on my sunglasses and slept. The annoying part was having to get up and transfer planes in the middle of my nap.

I'd just call it "stupid early", because getting up that early tends to reduce one's effective IQ.

I've always referred to these as "0-dark-thirty".

Except Me!

I literally do nothing but fly to gigs now and after hundreds of flights I STILL can't sleep on a plane. Drives me bananas!

Same here Brian.  ~400,000 air miles all over the world for my day job and probably can count the total hours of sleep on both hands.  Makes flying overseas very boring.

I guess I am blessed, if very tired I am out as we taxi to the runway.  If not I will have a light snack, read a little and I am out in an hour and I don't wake up until the flaps start to come out or if exhausted when the wheels hit the runway.

I miss the 100k years.  Took the family on some amazing trips, gave away some killer presents to friends too.  I still earn a bit on my American Exec card and get lounge privileges but once my last 1.2M miles are gone those days are over.  That's not flown mileage that includes to card points for the purchase, Y class bonuses and other upgrades.

I would say I was flying close to 100k actual miles.  I use to put 1/2 the teams room charges on my card, it was amazing what they left on the table.  My largest win was I was in charge of a trade show booth.  I found out they were sweating how to get the funds distributed, I said I will just expense it.  That was over 100k, took a couple hours on the phone to get my limit raised.  That earned a weekend in London for 2.

Just following up here, 'cause I hate it when people don't. So far it seems that calling an early morning flight a "Pink Eye" is gaining a lot of traction with folks that have to get up stupid early at the buttcrack of dawn to fly. You heard it here first! 8) 8)
