I keep coming back to the RCF mixer here: https://www.rcf.it/read-more/m-20x
Looks like a nice option to me, but probably larger than a TM16, but you do get physical faders. [...]

That seems like a nifty console, but the price is...higher than I had hoped. It's also almost twice the size and three times the weight that the OP was seeking...

Well, since there doesn't seem to be anything on the market that quite fits, I'll throw in my own spin:

2 x 8-channel USB interface (lots to choose from)
1 x DAW controller (whatever floats your boat)
1 x Laptop (whatever you already have is probably fine) with some kind of DAW software/software mixer

Relatively compact, relatively lightweight, relatively inexpensive, also super flexible and somewhat scalable. Add more weight (but save money and complexity) and sub the two USB interfaces for a Yamaha Tio1608-D and Dante Virtual Soundcard.

No tablet needed!

Yesterday realized the Touchmix16 has no USB audio interface, so it is no longer under consideration.
The Touchmix30 has a USB audio interface, but is bigger and heavier than I want.

Thanks for all the suggestions and Scott's generous offers.

OP: "no larger or heavier than 2.3” x 14.2" x 11.5" (58 mm x 360 mm x 291 mm) and 5.9 lb (2.98 kg)"
He does seem to care about this a lot!

To be honest I am quite shocked that the Line 6 Stagescape is still being made! It came out in 2012 or something like that and I have never heard or seen one in the wild. They are rare, but still available and being supported.
Oh yes, I'd completely forgotten about this horror!  But still, at 120 mm x 446 mm x 337 mm and 5.7 kg, it's too big for the OP, and is 2 inputs too little.

I keep coming back to the RCF mixer here: https://www.rcf.it/read-more/m-20x
Does anyone ever buy RCF's mixers?  Still, at 131 mm x 388 mm x 428 mm and 7.8 kg, it's too big and heavy for the OP.

At 144 mm x 486 mm x 356 mm and 7.7 kg, it's too big and heavy for the OP

The big question is why must this be the format?
Indeed.

Scott,

Was hoping for a stand alone the size/weight of the TouchMix 16 but with a USB interface, but looks like that won't happen.

Sending my VoiceLive Touchmix 2 in for repairs, after considering the options, and considering that the chances of me recording more than a few inputs at a time during the pandemic are about zero, will make do with what I currently own.

Thanks again for the offer!

Scott,

Was hoping for a stand alone the size/weight of the TouchMix 16, but looks like that won't happen.

The Ashley looks good, though appears the USP option adds a fair bit of expense. Could you check on what it would cost delivered to 32174 ? Scratch and dent or dealers models would be fine if lower cost and still full warranty.

Have to read through the manual more carefully and compare features to the RCF-M 20X.

When you start looking at the RCF your getting into the size and cost of a QU-16.
The Qu-16 has more dedicated knob functions for EQ, gain, pan, comp and gate thresholds if your looking for quick grab and turn adjustments....after you hit select on the channel you want to adjust.

There may be a something new to look at.
Peavey has a digital mixer, about the same cost as the QSC, surface controls, larger than the QSC though. In my quick read about it I could not find any thing about recording.
Who knows when they will actually ship.

Probably needs a separate thread but saw that mentioned somewhere else, in a lot of ways it's a product that has nothing really going for it, yes it has built in Wi-Fi, bluetooth and it's a HTML5 "app" like the Ui series so the "app" is platform agnostic, plus it's slightly cheaper than an X32 compact/producer which are some positives but the negatives far outweigh that, i.e. in comparison to an X32 compact it has,

no proper remote stagebox option (I believe it may have audio networking but only one socket and it's not of the Ethercon variety)
less mixable channels (26 vice 40) and less inputs and outputs on board
custom psu/connector (no straight IEC input which ALL Behringer digital mixers have)
less faders, knobs and buttons
no expansion card slot
no current market acceptance
no MIDI I/O
and the list probably goes on.

I guess peavey decided that they needed a digital mixer and this is what they've released and what they thought they could get away charging yes the X32 is relatively old now but the SW updates have kept it relevant (plus buy an X32 compact/producer from Thomann and without import taxes it's cheaper!) . How many of these mixers they will sell is another matter but the same could be said about RCF, line6 and studiomaster digital mixers.

Sadly, I agree.

I looked at the price and the first thing I did was look up the current price of an X32 Compact ;).

Of course, both are much bigger than the OP wanted.

I actually don't find that as a negative.

Not so long ago all serious mixers had external power supplies or an internal supply with the provision
for an external back up.

If my QU's had an external supply option I would carry one.
I have a UI 16 I'll use for some small or simple events and I carry an extra supply for that.

Back to the Touch Mix topic and power supplies, a friend of mine has a Touch Mix and carries two power supplies, good thing because one day on power up the supply went out, plugged in the backup
and went on.
