I understand the appeal of FB, but will there be an alternative for those of us who view FB as a spy tool?

Hate to break it to you Tim but the entire web is a spy tool but yes, some worse than others.   :-\

I agree.  I keep one machine that is never used to access anything Google/youtube,gmail, etc.  I use NoScript to keep their scripts from spying.  I block Facebook, Instagram and their social brothers and sister at the source as untrusted.  I see a very different set of advertising (and on line prices from some merchants) compared to a machine that I allow Google and related things to run on.

Am I "anonymous"?  Of course not.  But that I notice differences is not surprising to me.  At any rate, I've managed to almost make it to retirement without social media, and I'm trying to continue doing so.

I've turned off google ad tracking and I also don't see much personalized ads, it's an option.  You can also just use Tor as browser, or DuckDuckGo as search engine.

I have my google privacy settings as tight as I can get them.  I use Duck first and only use G if I can't find what I want.

Install virtual machine software (many are free).  Spin up a VM then just delete ot when done.  Takes about 30 seconds.  Any virus or other crap you pickup can't touch the host system.

Hi Tim
I understand and I will post direct links but the Q & A will only be available live I am afraid. Also for those interested I also am involved in US support for Klang 3D immersive Ear Monitoring and will as well follow up with the links post FB live webinars for any one interested in learning during this crazy downtime.
 Best Regards and stay safe.
