I've been custom making my own XLR mic cables for years.  I've always used Rapco Horizon 24ga with neutrik ends.    I'm shopping around for a new spool of raw cable.  Should I stick with rapco horizon or has anyone had better experience with others?

I've purchased and made my own cables for years mostly with the Rapco Horizon cable.  I've been content with it!  There might be some specialty applications that would warrant something better but, for most "live sound" uses, I think it's just fine.

My go to is Canare L4E6S.

Some of the recording guys I know like the Gotham Audio GAC-4 double shielded cable when extra RF rejection is important.


You can always go cheap and get the EWI knock off of the Canare cable from Audio Pile.

I've purchased and made my own cables for years mostly with the Rapco Horizon cable.  I've been content with it!  There might be some specialty applications that would warrant something better but, for most "live sound" uses, I think it's just fine.

The Rapco Mic 5 is good 20 gauge cable.

I've made most of my cables with Canare L-2T2S and Neutrik connectors.

Personally, I like TMB pro cable.  Let me know if anybody needs a price on that.

Canare L4 is the standard with most companies these days.

The Rapco stuff is also perfectly good.  They did update the cable recently, for what it's worth.  Their new stuff is closer to Canare as far as handling goes.  I feels like the durability would also be similar but it's too soon to say.
