Out of curiosity I looked up the Sennheiser mic and gooseneck. What did you feel the pick up patteren of the ME36 capsule was, I found some places call it a hypercardioid and others calling it a supercardioid, even on the Sennheiser site it!
It's difficult to distinguish hypercardioid from supercardioid in a simple talking into the mic type of test, but it was certainly adequately directional to maintain a feedback-free usability, while at the same time being adequately wide to pick up more than a single person standing at the 3' wide lectern.

It seems we are narrowing down the the countryman IsoMax4 or A3. Anyone have anything to say on the differences, good or bad, between the two? A3 obviously costs more, but no real info about which is technically the "better" option.

Audix M1255B, on an MGN-20 Gooseneck, stuck in an ATS10 base. Nice and crisp, pretty stable pattern too.

We ended up picking up one each of the countryman IsoMax4 and A3 to give them a shot. According to countryman the A3 is leaps and bounds better than the IsoMax series, but we figured we would try both of them out anyways. Thanks for all the commenting!

We are doing a lot more TV these days and have started using AKG747 mics.  They work very well and stay out of the camera shots.

I'm not sure about "leaps and bounds" but it is better. I think a little better overall sounding in general and more consistent sound within the general pickup pattern.
Just used my A3 last night and I'm glad did for when the one guy went to the podium and left mic pointing into the center of his chest.

Hi Daniel and All,

For me, the AT 857 sounds ok and Countryman 4RF sounds significantly better, and is easy to work with.
I generally add a second windscreen when outdoors, or
when dealing with folks who occasionally lean right in on the mic.
On a stand, the Windtech MY20 mic clip works well for additional shock isolation and a firm grip.
A3 looks nice.
Earthworks is very good.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

I normally use a Shure A99WS windscreen instead of the supplied windscreen.
