ADAT Poping
« on: November 14, 2016, 03:18:34 PM »

I'm having a problem with one of our Behringer ADAT preamps. It pops randomly, but they still work. I'm hoping it is the cables but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had this problem with an ADAT system?

Digital system interconnects have to be running on the same clock. If the clocks drift apart, popping happens.

How is the preamp (I assume ADA8000 or similar?) clock source setup?
What are you connecting it to?

How many toslink cables?

I had 5 ADA 8000 working with MOTU 2408s.  One by one they started popping or other noises.  I replaced them all with used Focusrite preamps.  A few years later it was learned that a chip Behringer was used was not comparable with the MOTU gear.  The SAC users forum discovered it, and  Behringer tested and confirmed it. I don't know if the new Behringer preamp changed this or not. The ADAT system served me well but I saw a opportunity to upgrade to a Dante based system so I havent been keeping up anymore.

I also changed over to Dante, mostly originally to remove the cable length restrictions of toslink, USB & FireWire.

Getting the configuration and gear in use from the OP should help us help him.
