So I'm helping with this play thing at church...  And this is where FOH ended up. Thankfully it's mostly speaking into wireless handheld mics and only a couple of songs with live instruments...

Many, many years ago mixing from the front of the stage wasn't that uncommon.

Yeah, but it usually involved waving your arms around with a pointy stick in one hand...sort of like those diviners searching for water...

I have been setup at the side of the stage many times but never right in front.

I did a theater show from a normal FOH booth position in a 600 seat auditorium.  The problem is that the show was done black box style with the audience on stage and set built backwards out over the first few rows of seats.

Steve.

Yeah, that would make more sense to me except that cast &  set pieces are constantly coming on and off stage on both sides(temp stage against a wall). It was one of those "we've always done it this way" situations. If I'd known what I was getting into I could have brought the snake(and mixer for that matter as it would have saved me from hooking the one in the pic back up next week and got me 6chs of dynamics) from another church I help at,  but.......

That was actually a stress dream I used to have many years ago, that I would return at showtime and find someone had removed the snake and randomly patched the board at the foot of the stage.

One-off at some state college in the Midwest, mixing from the projection booth in the student union theater.  To hear the room, I could either:

- stick my head out the projector port
- run down two flights of stairs, down a long hallway to the front of the room

Console was a Yamaha 03D.
