Is there no way to set it to letterbox rather than crop the 16:9 into the 4:3?

For the record, NTSC has nothing to do with aspect ratio....it's about frame and scan rate, and also color encoding. Unless you have a European/Asian tv, this wouldn't likely effect you as all of North American broadcast is done in NTSC.

The other options would be PAL (most of the rest of the world) or SECAM (Russia and a few other countries).

hmm - i was watching the game earlier on CBS and there I notice the stat bar was cutoff at the bottom left/right and you could only see CB and not CBS. I thought the kids had been messing with the TV.

Yes. We have three in our house, and all are older CRTs that do not have the new fangled digital tuners.

NO it's house 3:4 monitors in my venue.

At least in our area, you can't even get basic cable on a non digital tv (CRT, 4:3, etc). You need a clear qam tuner...  You can get a box from TWC, and it will put out letterbox signal...
