ADJ Scan 250EX 250W 24V Replacement Bulbs
« on: November 08, 2013, 01:19:10 PM »

I'm looking for some replacement bulbs for an American DJ Scan 250EX.  It's an ELC 250 Watt, 24 Volt bulb.  Does anyone have recommendations for replacement bulbs?  I've done Amazon/eBay searches, but there are just SO many to blindly choose from.

Get an ELC/5 or ELC/7, as they are longer-lived than the plain ELC. I have never noticed any significant difference from brand to brand.

osram has it, and i can't remember the order code, but go to http://www.bulbconnection.com/ punch in the fixture or lamp you are looking for, and most certainly get the ELC 7x as duane said...certainly worth it!!!!

Thanks for the input guys! I ended up getting qty (4) ELC-5 Philips 38166-5 bulbs from PlanetBulb.com.

Turns out this was the same model that came with the lights. I got the lights 4 years ago and use them for about 80 shows/yr.  One of the bulbs burned out recently so I had to put in a spare.  When I got the lights I had them throw in 4 spare AMDJ ELC's.  The AMDJ bulbs don't seem to be very good.  They kept burning out (although the first one I'll take responsibility for- I powered on the light without putting on the front panel therefore the airflow was not directed at the bulb and thus it overheated)! After just a month I'm down to my last spare.

The original ELC's are only good for 25hrs (avg), if memory serves me at all.

That was about what I was seeing with those AMDJ bulbs.  The Philips -5 bulbs have probably about 400 hours on them right now so it's a good thing I got 4 spares.  They might all need to be replaced over the next 6 months or so.
