1 XLF with 2x615s
« on: September 07, 2012, 01:19:24 PM »

Hi

We are planning to get one PRX618XLF to go with 2x PRX615s (for now we can only afford 1).
I am not sure what would be the best way to hook this up?

Tnx

Run both your left and your right into the XLF, it will sum them to mono. Then connect your 615's to 1 each of the outputs. Done.

Sooo mixer outs (left and right) to left and right inputs in XLF, then from outs on XLF to each PRX?

they didn't have xlf in stock (ordered) so we rented 1 KSUB, as per their recommendation,...

we were little disappointed, i think there was no enough power and more importantly, bass wasn't that low as i expected,...

The KSub is a .... well.... sub performing speaker ;)  If you ordered a PRX618S-XLF, it will not only go lower, but will be much louder, and sound better too.  In fact, it will likely "sound louder" than 2 KSubs put together.

Thats like taking a empty 2 litter soda bottle into a bar fight.

PRX618-XLF or LS801P are my 2 choices for Bar powered subs under $1500.

Yep.

The XLF is a better sounding speaker IMHO while the LS801P is a more powerful speaker.  To clarify this statement, I would say that the XLF has punch but doesn't cloud the air with "woomp".  I have heard some that own them say that you can tweak the 801 to sound more musical, but the XLF just sounds good right out of the box.  It is pretty hard to make it sound bad (although I would state that I haven't actually tried ;) ).

Some people like the woofy sound of the 801p and prefer it because of its higher output over the XLF.  Most sound professionals who are accustomed to using higher end subs tend to like the sound of the XLF more and if they wanted more output, would simply buy 2 more XLF's ;)

The other big differentiation is the 801p is simply a pig to carry at 137lbs (close to 2 times as heavy as the XLF).  I did sound for a band a couple of weeks before that had never heard or used the XLF's.  The drummer was concerned as he carried one in by himself that they weren't going to have the output he wanted.  At the first break he had to copy down the model number so he would know what to save his money for ;)  Big grins every time he hit the kick.
