Broken Beta52
« on: June 14, 2012, 07:53:06 PM »

Sorry if this in the wrong forum or if this been covered before.

I have a Beta 52 that barely sends signal. I never abuse it. It's clean. Just been used for its intended design inside a kick drum.

My question is, first of all, how can those mics break? I always thought they were pretty indestructible. Second, is it worth fixing or should I just get a new one?

Thanks

$65 and they will probably just send you a new one instead of fixing yours and then sending it back.

If you unscrew the grill you'll let out the magical low frequency air.

It doesn't let out the LF air, it lets out the "Swiss Alps" boost from 4-6K.

Question:

What sounds better than a Beta 52?

Answer:

A broken Beta 52............

Go with answer B.  For choices, see the sticky at the top of the LAB Lounge board.

If you get your old one back, you can make it into a 9-iron…just add the shaft.

So $65 to get a new one. Works for me! Thanks.

I personally dig the Beta 52. I mean, if I'm recording I certainly prefer an iFet or something like that. But for a live gig it's the 52 or the D112. Can't beat them for the money.

My two cents.

Never had one break before though.

I had a similar issue with my Beta52 that suddenly stopped passing sound.
Turned out it was one of the leads that had disconnected from corrosion at the solder point (at the XLR)
Re-soldered all 3 wires and never had a problem since.

How the heck do you get into those things? I'll figure it out. There's a very distinct possibility that's the problem.

our B 52 bit the biscuit at around 3 years of age... started going click click ploof click instead of doof doof. After close inspection the cause was a broken wire on the voice coil quite near the solder joint. Good luck soldering that one!

Lets just call it fatigue... had a 57 do similar on Snare bottom...

Cheaper to get a new mic with warranty than wait 6 weeks to get a new diaphragm.

I thought it was unheard of... until now!
