I am seeking suggestions for a simple and inexpensive wireless router. There are so many available if anyone provide a reference to a solid product I would appreciate it.
I want to use it with the Yamaha consoles, PC Windows 7 and Mac 10.4, iPad2, HiQnet etcetc

From a packaging standpoint I like the Apple that is a wall wart.  I've read mixed reviews though.

If you are referring to the Airport Express, I'm pretty sure it does not work as an access point/ router in the way needed for OP. An Airport Extreme will work. I use a $50 netgear wireless router bought at Best Buy. It works great.

Do you mind providing the netgear model or style name that is working for you?
..feels a little shady not doing the research myself for such simple product but I am ignorant regarding networking protocol. I know if I don't catch up neither will my pocket book.

I am seeking suggestions for a simple and inexpensive wireless router.

Passing on a recommendation I found here and bought for myself: DLink DIR-815.  I use it in the 5GHz mode with LS9s, a Windows netbook, a Compaq (remember those?) and an iPad2 running StageMix, AirFader and RealVNC.  Good user interface, good range and no lost connections.

The wall wart sized, garden variety Airport Express routers I have here work fine. Both a four year old model and a brand new one work as well as a brand new Airport Extreme with Studio Manager.  The iPad looses connection every minute or so with all of those routers as well as the Linksys router we have in the M7 but that I have to ascribe to iOS wifi problems thus far since the computer connection remains solid.  The form factor for an LS9 doghouse can't be beat.

To update my previous post, after re-entereing the wifi settings in the iPad I now get a solid connection on the Apple Airport express routers as well as the Linksys routers.  All is good on Studio Manager and Stage Mix.  Now the magic bullet would be talking the PM5D into taking Studio Manager control from the USB port on the Airport Express units.
