Yorkville UCS1 vs. JTR Growler
« on: March 21, 2008, 08:45:30 PM »

My friend and I are looking to get a pair of subs to be ran by a Crown XTI4000 for redundancy.  We're looking at either the Yorkville UCS1 or the JTR Growler.  The Growler from what I understand has gotten a lot of attention.  However on paper, the yorky looks a bit more impressive, and around $599 each vs. $899 each.  Since a lot of what we do is hiphop/trance/techno, there is strong emphasis on bass.

Specs for the yorky:

and of course the beloved growler:

Ive used them both. The growler sounds a little smoother and pushes the low notes out pretty well. The the UCS1 has more impact and I think it gets a little louder. Though, its a lot bigger then the growler. Either would be a good choice, but my money would be with the ucs1's. Or, if you have space, have a look at the LS1208. Those will destroy either sub.

Um.... I got mine for $700ea(painted). And I know someone else that got the carpeted ones for $600ea.

The LS1208 is $899 carpeted, and $1049 painted...

"retail"

Jeff,
I know you know this, but..  Very Happy
Don't forget you are talking as a manufacturer.. to people who are consumers! They always see what they can GET the product for.. and not where it's price/feature positioned.. relative to it's competition. MSRP is a great mantra when setting a supplier to retailer position and relationship.. but it is largely ignored by the consumer in favor of actual cost.
IMO, all that's being seen here is the GENERIC value by this individual.. not the SPECIFIC value.
Jeff, WE all know you have products of great value.. and if this individual could see and hear the Growlers.. he would agree, I'm sure.
Sorry if my strategic Marketing class is showing here.. Cool
Best Regards,

A tip to the OP.....
Growlers do not cost $899.  Get a quote on some and you will see.
