This sounds like an interesting contraption.

Not really interested in the breaker & fee part, but if that could be encoded into something like a Raspberry Pi device, you could use it to trigger other events. DMX signals for lighting (flashing or blackouts), mute groups on a board, sudden drastic volume reductions (via a scene change), or an embarrassing FX patch that makes the lead singer sound like Mickey Mouse.

There are simply indicators that are 'public area friendly' and just give a green/amber/red indication (adjustable) https://www.noisemeters.com/product/soundear/se2ear/

Formula Sound make a good device with a visual bargraph, if you want to trigger a mains power cut off or some other electrical event via its relay: https://formula-sound.co.uk/product/sentry-mk2-cut-off-limiter/

They also make a number of line level automatic volume controls that can go between desk and amps (AVC2, AVC2D etc.). These typically have a mute relay that can be connected to fire alarms etc.

Hi Dan,

I did this in a venue that had to comply with local law.
Device was an old Ipad running Studio6Digital and displaying the StopLight function.
Microphone was a S6D ITestMic.  All up on a stand in band view.
Display goes from gray > green > yellow > red.
Lots of adjustability for meter settings  -  dba, leq, time, etc.
I had done a noise survey with six measurement devices around the property and a loud dj to come up with the settings.

The first wedding band in there was hitting red with just the monitors, had to really dial them back.
At the end of the evening, everybody was ok with it.
One musician said thanks, that's the most fun he's had playing in a while, and he could hear everything.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

The first wedding band in there was hitting red with just the monitors...

I was in a bar in Dublin pre-pandemic, and the band that was setting up tripped the venue's power cutoff device.

It killed the power to the PA which had nothing going through it at the time - all faders were down, the mixperson wasn't even near the desk - and it killed all the lights in the venue. The safety/evac and fridge lights were the only illumination.

It was the snare drum...that the kid was tuning.

Acoustically.

Apparently the venue had received a number of complaints, and consequently the threshold for that device was set ridiculously low.

So...no band that night.

Or any other I'd guess.

Cheers,
Tim

PS. I'm not a fan of stupid loud having been repeatedly subjected to it primarily at sporting events, but I don't believe that rock bands should have to walk on eggshells.
