One of the great struggles turning these forums into something of value for everyone was the ENDLESS bulldogging of attempts to conduct business.

That’s why (finally) the marketplace was created.

Take it to private messaging.  If I see an offer to sell, the post gets whacked. I’ll wager only a dozen current members were around when we were engaged in constant whack a mole. It was maddening.  I realize what I’m seeing lately is just trying to be helpful, but take your help to private messaging.  Back in those earlier internet days, there were few outlets to sell audio gear online. I get why people did it, but we weren’t having it then and we’re not having it now.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Can someone explain to me how the private messaging works? When I do get an e-mail from someone here it appears to come from "[email protected]" I have found that simply replying to those e-mails doesn't seem to have the desired effect, IOW, a continued conversation. What am I missing?
Thanks!

If you log into the site there is a "tab" for "My Messages", I haven't played around with it a lot but it's like a few other forums I belong to where there are two folders, "inbox" and "sent", when you reply to someone here your message gets sent to their "inbox" and your "sent" box (I believe this is optional), so it may be difficult to follow many messages at the same time, however I've found that typically in my case I'm really only having one or two private messages with members at any point in time and typically zero, so they are grouped together like that. I've never tried to respond to an email notification that I have a message from a forum, I've always used the forums messaging feature so I'm not sure you can respond to an email.

Tony is emailing you using the email link in your profile, so the message comes to your email through the forum. The problem is that he has not updated HIS email address that the forum displays for return mail, so when you try to reply your message goes to a dead box. I do some business with him and he doesn't currently use a Hotmail address AFAIK.

Yeah, but...when ANYBODY sends me e-mail through the forum, it says it's from tonymamoh...who I guess is a real person? I'm still confused...

Maybe that's why he changed his email address. :)

Yeah, that's possible. It feels to me like the forum needs to plug in an e-mail address when it sends a message and tonymamoh was a default. I haven't been on the forum long enough to know who he is, or if he was one of the people who set up the forum etc.

I don’t know who he is.

There is a variation of that email address in the member database, different domain.  Hasn’t been active since 2019.

I don’t know…

Sounds like a question for Ernie.

This is very strange indeed, I just sent myself an email and it arrived from g****[email protected], which is not and never was my email address.
