I'm specing out an install right now for a local restaurant, that has regular live music on on outdoor stage, and need recommendations for IP rated outdoor speakers- think K12 equivalent IP Rated. Passive I'm sure will be the way to go, but to give you an idea what size / output I need.

I've been a big fan of the Tannoy AMS 8DC (not the ICT) for outdoor speakers. They have great pattern control, are relatively flat down to 100Hz, require no EQ or DSP to sound good, and come with all needed hardware in the box. They get plenty loud with a big amp, and at 16Ω you can put several on a single amp channel.

I've used them with a Lab Gruppen iPD2400 and a Tannoy VSX 12.2BP bandpass sub to great effect in a couple installs. The sub will likely need a cover of some sort if it's going outside, but the bandpass design protects the drivers from lots of stuff. They can be ordered in a weatherproof outfit.

I've had a pair of white AMS 8's baking under the eaves in the desert for a couple years now and they are no worse for wear.
