Single rackspace amps... (NOT Powersoft)
« on: October 10, 2012, 03:43:05 PM »

Just what the title says, know someone looking for a couple single rack space amps that are at least 5-600w/channel at 4 Ohms. I've been looking around the sites of the "normal" options but don't see much out there.

Leaving out Powersoft since if they were to buy one of those it would serve better duty on other projects that would get a higher rental rate.

Anybody know of anything handy? Used is probably cool as long as you aren't posting up dinosaurs like the Carver model that was single (300 I think?)

Thanks

I cam only get as close as 400 at 4 ohms....

Those EWI's look surprisingly like SoundTech PS802's which have been around for ages.  http://www.soundtech.com/products/home-recording/ps802/ .   The difference between 400 and 500 watts is insignificant.  I occasionally run an ancient SoundTech PS802 through some Yamaha SM12Vs, works just fine for bar band monitors.  Bought the PS802 from a pawn shop for $200.

Hey! I used to use those Carvers (and I think I still have one somewhere) PM-300, one rack sp, about 80w per channel they did perfectly well for me back in 1983!

I think you're asking a lot for 600w/ch @ 4 ohms in one rack sp can't think of anything with that much bang for the size

Thanks fellas

Yes, sadly for the size there's only one line of amps I could think of which are way out of the budget. I'm betting the person I'm looking for will end up having to go another route.

There are a number of 4-channel 2U options if that helps at all.

Outline has their "T" series amps which appear to just be powersoft amps in very slightly modified enclosures, same specs and all.

Are you aware of the Powersoft M-series? They are 4 channels in one rack space and are actually cheap enough to compete to some degree with the Chinese models pr. channel...
