Looking for small drop snakes
« on: July 07, 2005, 09:29:36 AM »

Hi Gents,

I've been looking all over the place for some smallish 4ch. drop snakes to eliminate the typical cable clutter on stage.  Since I use powered wedges, I would really like 3 sends and one return, or something in that vicinity.  Unfortunately I haven't found anything this small.

Whirlwind makes a smallish 4ch. drop snake but it has DIs built in that I would never use.  There are also lots of drum drops, but they are all 6 channels or more.

Anyone have an idea where I could find such a thing?

Thanks
Simon

You could try these:
http://www.audiopile.net/products/Patch_snakes/MTFM/MTFM-04/ MTFM-04_cutsheet.asp

They are fan to fan as opposed to fan to box, but they would work.  Also it would be rather easy to swap the connecters on one channel to give you 3 sends and one return.  If you aren't comfortable doing the soldering I bet audiopile would do it for you for a reasonable charge.

You could also look at the flat 6 and 8 channel boxes from Rapco or Whirlwind.  They have more channels than you need, but they are very small and making one channel into a return would be easy.

I will make a similar suggestion as Rick.
I have made several 4ch. drop snake that are just fan to fan.
I had bulk 4ch. cable sitting around and just whipped a couple together.
Easy to do and gave me just a few channels where I needed them.

I would get some 4-pair wire and make your own fanout to fanout on each end.  If you want to spend the money, I really like the mini-6's from Whirlwind..they'll make them in any length you want and they would probably even do the return for you (for an extra charge probably).
