Title: Source of adjustable metal straps for mounting to large poles
Post by: Rain Jaudon on January 21, 2011, 01:15:06 pm
Have googled adjustable metal straps, adjustable steel straps, and every other variety of pole mounting / speaker mounting search terms and turning up nothing but metal straps for wrapping pallets.

What is the proper term and where can I find them?

I have a pair of 50 lb speakers to mount to concrete light poles on a high school ball field.  I'll have concrete anchors into the poles themselves but would feel more secure with the metal straps as a secondary attachment.

Pole straps?

Edit: Wrong link.  I can't think of the name of the product I just used to do exactly what your talking about, but when I do I'll post it here.

If it were me I would talk to the pole manufacturer before I attempted to drill into them for anchors. It's easy to compromise precast products in many cases if you don't know what you are doing and I don't think you want to be responsible for replacing the pole.

As for mounting hardware, I used to have a link but of course I can't find it. That also could be something to ask the pole manufacturer.

The term I'd use is "steel banding".

Hi,

If I understand your requirements, over here they are called column brackets or clamps. Might be a different name in the USA. Doughty either stock or will fabricate what you want. They have a shop in TN, which covers the USA.

Also have a look at the clamps section.

Iain.

Adaptive Technologies/Allen Products makes the PoleStar products.  http://www.allenproducts.com/polestar_outdoor.html (http://www.allenproducts.com/polestar_outdoor.html)

I've used these with good results.  They do recommend a second attachment bracket for a safety.  I would hesitate to drill into a structural column without an engineer's approval (structural type engineer, not audio type).

I agree as you are changing the integrity of the pole
