Title: Mackie 1604 VLZ Post Mute and Post Eq
Post by: Aaron McQueen on December 13, 2005, 10:55:45 am
I have a Mackie CR1604 VLZ (not PRO version) where Aux 1 and 2 (used for monitors) are pre mute and pre eq (this seems pretty usless to me, when I press mute, I'd like the channel to mute, not just in the mains).  I can make the mute work if use post fader but then I loose seperate control of the monitor mix.  I found on the Mackie website a way to modify to board to make it post eq, but there is no post mute mod.

http://www.mackie.com/pdf/compactmixer_mods.pdf

Has anyone done the post eq mod, and does anyone have any information on the post mute mod?  I'm an electronics technician by trade so I shouldn't have problems soldering or cutting traces.

We are getting a new board soon, so this one will be used for remote events, or maybe the youth.

Thanks in advance.

The SR32-4 comes from the factory with the same poor choice of mute/eq routing. I was able to modify both the mute and eq so that all AUX's would be post eq/mute, but it's been about 5 years, so I don't remember a lot about it. I know Mackie provided some info, but it seems like I had to invent part of the mod on my own. I'll dig around and see if I can turn up any documentation.

I would guess if it's possible on an SR32, it would be possible on the 1604. I think the channel circuitry is pretty similar on the two boards.

Please share your findings here as I can use the same information and I'm sure there are others in the same boat.

Jason sent me the service manual, so I can trace out the right path.  Once I make the mod I will post some pictures, but it may be a while because currently it is in service, so I have to wait for the new board before I do anything.  We are replacing this with a Yamaha MG32/FX.
