Title: Midas Heritage-D - leaked photos
Post by: Lee Richard on May 03, 2016, 05:40:45 pm
Had a feeling this was coming, after reading about the new midas preamps.

Looks to be an M32-style version of the Pro series.

Seems to be an awful lot of wasted space in the EQ section.

I talked to a guy from Music Group today.  His answer is that he doesn't know anything first hand (different division), but that it's a rendering rather than a photograph of a real item.  His educated guess is it's a near future product, which may or may not end up as the rendering.

It looks more "Behringer" (X/M32) than "Midas" (Pro) to me.  Hopefully Pro1 level price point.

If that's a fake, someone put a hell of a lot of effort into making a fake photo-realistic rendering.

I like that. All bands at your fingertips without pushing buttons. I tend to use eq a lot if the act is constantly changing styles. Our show used to do tunes from the 50s to present. Might not have to play with the eq as much with the current bands lined up.

I see it labeled at HD96-16. Does that mean 16 channels at 96k or you have to assign inputs in banks of 16?

With the amount and type of i/o on the back I'd be surprised if it couldn't control "a whole lotta bunch of inputs".  That said I see only 16 input faders and no way of switching banks (presumably a touch screen thing).

I'm beginning to buy into the "mock up image" thoughts.

They certainly can have been working on the innards while other folks are exploring the packaging. With modular internal design, they can have the controls functional and simply do a re-layout when the case design is finalized. That way they can have internal prototypes for the programmers to be working on before there is any packaging available.

It's not "fake", but it isn't real either, it's a 3D-modelled design concept.

It's actually, not a hell of a lot of effort to create a 3d mockup.  This probably wasn't supposed to be release to the public yet, and is unlikely a 'final' design, but a work in progress.  Modifying designs for something that never sees the light of day is pretty common, and simple if you already have all of the components in your 3d app.  Making it on your own from scratch would be more work, but again, only a few hours of work could get what you see in the drawing.

A lot of the "photos" of any real audio product I see on websites and in brochures is from a render instead of an actual live shoot.

I remember the M32R being leaked a short while before it was announced.

Maybe we'll see something at summer Namm?

Perhaps it was leaked to Music Group can get feel for interest before finalizing the design?

In general, I'm very interested and don't have an personal changes to the surface. My only interest is how the software is going to integrate and make my workflow better.

I don't mind working on the X32/M32 desks, but every time I try to do something reasonable it's always a source of frustration. (Like trying to use Multirack and loosing control of the head amps on the surface or the 32 I/O limit on the card slot.) So it will be interesting if they take everything good about the M32/X32 and remove the limitations.

If it has "Heritage" in the name then it needs to be purple!         -obvious fake :)

I rather like that Midas has finally produced a serious digital desk, without it looking like a vomiting child who'd eaten all their crayons was part of the design process!

Seriously though, I wonder if they'll spin the "industrial design" again, like they did with the Bentley/M32 promo materials?

If it's real (I don't see why it wouldn't be), looks like they're going after the CL with this one.

While this may be a great product one day, I think its a real shame to use the Heritage name. This thing has absolutely nothing to do with a Heritage whatsoever

The CL has a lot of love, so it would be a good place to target.

I see a lot wasted airspace in a case.

As compared to say the equivalent analog console and drive racks?

I see a lot wasted airspace in a case.

Wow, they really are shooting for the CL5, then.  There's a fair bit of open space inside the 5, though the CL1 is pretty tightly packed.

Tall desks are all the rage: CL, Vi, S6L, S21, M32, dLive....

However, generally speaking (aside from desks with monitors stacked on top), they are no taller than the analog desks from the the days of yore.

I must say that I really appreciate the better angle of viewing that having the built in display more upright provides. Also, if you are doing a touch screen, a bigger screen is generally better, and multi-point capacitive touch is far superior to good old resistive touch for both ergonomics and performance.

I do wish these desks had adjustable angle displays.  The number of times i have a stupid glare from an overhead light that i can't get rid of....  annoying!

That would be the answer to the wasted space. Screens that fold over like a laptop and could be flipped up to any angle desired. I'm sure it can be done. Maybe I'll buy one to experiment with, get out my chain saw, and sell the modification to the aftermarket.

+1  Simply being able to drive an external display would be amazingly useful, even if it was just a mirror of the internal display.  Bigger can be better.

Like lighting consoles. The MA2 has hydraulic? screens, press a button and they move haha

Because it has an adjustable screen, duh.

Also, the 5D can do several things that the CL5 still can't.

But the CL can do enough things the 5D can't (at half the price) to make it a no brainer for me.
