Title: 3.5mm stereo jack with switch
Post by: Joseph D. Macry on March 18, 2016, 11:55:49 am
Is there such a thing as a 3.5mm stereo "iPod" jack that includes a switch to open or close a relay?
I have seen switched 1/4" models, but don't find 3.5 models like this in Neutrik nor Switchcraft.
My intent is to tell my DSP (via logic inputs) to override centrally distributed audio when "iPod" cable is plugged into the local area jack.

Sure. CUI makes lots of them. Available at DigiKey or Mouser.

Does your DSP have a ducker? I've installed several systems where the iPod overrides whenever you press play. Just be sure to leave a few extra seconds on the release to account for any gaps between songs.

DSP does have a ducker, but need a hard relay in this case. Just because the Coach pauses his iPod does not mean he wants the distributed music to come on; he might want to talk to the kids for a while.
I will use the ducker for a further level of priority, which lets paging/announcements override all music sources.
