Title: EAW KF940 yes or no
Post by: Rick Alan on January 23, 2012, 04:33:04 pm
Look at buying a used  EAW KF940 in great condition for $900. Is it worth it?

I know it no Danley and it's heavy but how is the performance for small to medium venues?

No good in single box configuration.  Minimum of 4 to start to really work.

Ditto to Fowler's advice.  Depending on what you're used to hearing/feeling, a single 940 might seem like an improvement.. but for the size/weight/price you would probably be better off with something else.

Had many of these, here's some thoughts:

- Lifting 400lbs is hard!
- They are the size of a fridge.
- Being horn loaded (13' no less!), they have a sound that is "different" from front loaded boxes.  They don't work well in small rooms...trust me on this!
- They are designed to be used in blocks of 4.
- They are great if you need to reproduce 20hz......

Just get a used SRX728 and be done with it.......

Thanks for the input.  I have decided to pass. Size is not everything.
