I'm seeing the X32 Compact for $1699 (normally $2499) at many of the larger retailers (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/X32Compact/). I'm not planning on purchasing one but if someone else is, now looks like a good time.
Any idea why the large price drop all of a sudden?
-
Really any one of a number of possible reasons.
Maybe supply caught up with demand and there is now a surplus of the units sitting on shelves. Maybe there's a X32.1 or something coming out in a few months that will replace or supplement this unit. Who knows.

probably more to do with price of compact vs regular.

It's a one day sale. I'm on my way to pick one up in an hour.

I think the same. The X32 "Compact" was not that cheaper, not that smaller, not that lighter than the "not compact".

I think they also are suffering from the fact that having announced it, they took a long time in getting it out for sale. It's allowed other manufacturers, particularly Soundcraft and Allen & Heath, time to get their response products to market. At PLASA, I looked at both the Soundcraft SI and the A&H QU16, and both are good at decent price points. From a personal point of view, I think both are easier to use than the X32 and that counts for a lot at the budget end of the market.

Apparently not one day exactly. Online retailers still have them at $1699.

I wish I had the money to go buy one.... That's a really good price for that board; I don't think I'd miss the 8 faders from the full size one as much as I'd miss the extra money. ;D

You'd be missing the AUX Encoders and the User Defined Encoders, too. No big deal. I like Sends on Faders also, and you still have the User Defined Buttons. We recently added the Compact to the stable. It's a nice, full-featured complement to its big brother.

I missed they dropped those. I personally use the UDE's quite frequently to adjust delay and decay parameters without jumping into the effects rack. I can live without the aux assignments though it can be handy to tweak multiple effects sends on one channel AT&T he same time.

Hmmm.. Hadn't noticed the lack of aux encoders or User Encoders. That concerns me more than the fewer faders; I tend to ride the delay effects aux send knob(analog mixer) for lead vox frequently while mixing to control how much effect I want. I had figured when I moved to an x32 I'd probably assign that to one of the User Knobs. Then again I might could setup a DCA or another channel fader to do what I need. I've mixed some on the x32 I installed at a church but haven't mixed "my" band on one(or any other digital board) yet. We've got a pretty nice 16ch analog board but I knew when we got it the "next step" is something digital(we certainly don't want to be hauling around a larger(more channels) analog setup). I like that the compact is not as wide as the full size version which would be very helpful in some of the smallish places we setup.
At the price that the compact is going for right now we could get it and an S16 for less than a full size x32.

Sweetwater just told me that it's discontinued and no mention of what, if anything, will replace it.

Which Behringer has denied in another forum.
It's available as of this moment from Starin, the USA (North America?) distributor, but at a dealer price higher than what it was offered for during the sale mentioned in this thread. It also has a name change to X32 Compact TP.
Don't know what that stands for or what the deal was with the sale and its concurrent disappearance from the Starin website.
But it's back now, and was the same status when I checked it last week.

The "TP" stands for the Tour Pack.

So that includes the Gator case and littlelite? That seems like a decent deal....

Yes, it seemed strange to me when I was told of the rumor from someone that had just ordered one. So I called Sweetwater and the sales rep there looked it up in their system . . . "discontinued". Maybe they have it wrong?

On Starin it just says Tour Grade Flight case, no mention of littlelite.

Yes, saw that after looking closer.
"Tour Pack" then seems to be a misnomer.

Aaaaannnd now it's off Starin's website again altogether. WTF?

If "B" denies the product is discontinued it could be that Sweetwater has stopped stocking it, making it a discontinued item for them.
Although........... http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/X32Compact/ (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/X32Compact/)

Still not on Starin's website this afternoon.

Northern Sound.net and GC also think the Compact is discontinued. MG assured me that it's not.
I too had failed to notice the lack of encoders on the Compact - glad this was mentioned - I must ponder. (Actually, until recently I had failed to notice their inclusion on the full size.)

I just hope they don't make a "new" compact with the encoders included. While it's easy to get where I need using the assign buttons, it'd be even faster with the encoders. Size wise, for my use the Compact is perfect. I just hope they make EQ on faders work across the channel faders, would be much faster on all their models.
-
How do you rout channels to other mixes on this without the encoders? Does it put them on faders??

Yup. Sends on faders. Makes the encoders redundant.

On some consoles I prefer encoders to sends on faders.
Although since the X32 has sends on faders both ways, it does make using the encoders seem redundant, especially with how you have to page through mixes.
-
I got an email from Full Compass today advertising the X32 family. No compact in the add but all the rest of them.
Maybe Uli will shed some light in his thread?

I typically prefer sends on faders anyway. So I may buy this to add to my inventory. I have an M7, Performer 3, and an Expression 2 already. ( All have their uses and get used regularly.)

Thanks for the reply to my post Joe, and please note that "making it a discontinued item for them" in my text refers directly to Sweetwater. Strange how rumors tend to persist, even with a link directly to Sweetwater's ad indicating the product is in stock and on sale ready to ship.

If you follow that link now it says in stock.

And yet when I, as a Behringer dealer, go to the only source where I can get product to resell there is no listing for the Compact.
What am I supposed to do when the product is not available at any price from my only source, while simultaneously Joe Public can buy it at less than my former dealer cost (when it was available) from a giant mail order outlet?
I got a call for a quote yesterday about the Compact, and had to say it's not available through my company.

Yikes, that's terrible.

I'm just thankful that I DON'T have a shelf full of them, with the big-box online stores racing to dump them. My suspicion is that some big retailer with cash flow issues needed to pay their Behringer bill, so they got special dispensation to violate MAP, despite the fact that it screws over every small dealer who has the product in stock.

More likely, it's being dropped in price from top down. With the full size x32 not being that much larger and sporting a full 32 channels of input plus more controls on the surface for only a $500 price difference, they found it better priced closer to the rack than the full sized sibling.

I do wonder if any of the dealers here on this forum have been able to contact their rep and gotten any explanation?

Thanks for that link. I guess I should follow that thread, too.
After posting my comment yesterday I did reach out to my rep, and got essentially what Uli said, along with an implication that I shouldn't share the info.
It will be interesting to see what happens to that retailer who broke the Behringer MAP, as well as those who followed suit. Since the rules in America are different for big players rather than little guys, my guess will be "nothing".
-
I had initially started this thread and said that I wasn't planning on buying one but after much consideration, I decided to purchase one today from Sweetwater (I like their warranty support) and it's no longer available.

Still that price at GC, GC now has the X32 Producer for $1499.00 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-X32-Digital-Mixer-109596882-i3359365.gc
Odd they don't call it "Producer" in the ad.

From another forum that got it from another forum:
A large US retailer has decided to launch a major campaign to buy market share by selling the X32 Compact at a very aggressive price point. However once the limited stock is sold through, the situation will get back to normal.
To be perfectly clear, the X32 Compact is not at all discontinued and in fact has become the second best-selling console after the full-sized X32 at www.thomann.de, Europe’s largest retailer.
The X32 Compact along with the full-sized X32 continue to lead the whole family with a full slate of features including motorized faders, LCD scribble strips and of course all of the I/O options you'd expect. The interest that has surrounded all of the X32 models speaks very much to the way the family has been imagined from the start. It's not just the same board scaled down, but rather several configurations to meet specific needs.
The X32 Compact is the right choice for many users because of its size, while for others it's channel count. It all boils down to application. The X32 Producer might be the right choice forsomeone in a studio environment or the Rack may be a better choice for a house of worship. Ultimately, making several models with vastly different feature sets and user interfaces is more risky for a manufacturer, but it offers users the greatest range of choice for the way they work.
In the end, whether your needs are best met with an X32 Compact or one of the other models in the X32 family, what's important is that you are buying into a platform that not only delivers the features and performance of much more expensive consoles, it is a platform that continues to evolve and grow.
Warm regards
Uli

My eyes are really failing me. When I confirmed that the UDEs are missing, I still failed to see that the bus encoders are missing as well. Double dang.

Am I correct in that the Producer and Compact would need one of the S16 snake units to have 32 analog inputs useable at the same time? And street price on them are at $900 currently
