Thanks,Nate. The fog is lifting, if ever so slowly. If I am to understand this properly, use as a digital snake (DN4816I to a N4816O), would not need connection to Ultranet to work, as in a stand-alone digital snake?
As a DL16 has only 8 outputs, I can see the utility of a DN4816O to provide enough additional outputs to run additional IEM stereo mixes.

Without a Wing, these devices to my understanding are line level, no preamps.  However, they allow you to do some interesting things.  You can interconnect them, so you could use them like a digital snake (DN4816I to a DN4816O, or vice versa) to transmit 16 channels over an ethernet cable.  I have not tried this out.  If using it for inputs, you would have to go into a DN4816I, come out of the DN4816O with XLR cables and into an input on your desk to use preamps, or run line level.

I own a DN4816O.  It works with the Ultranet ports, so essentially anything I map to an Ultranet out, the DN4816O gives me that out as an analog output. I use it for monitor sends when I want shorter cable runs.  But I can also see using a combination of these to run outputs to an amp rack or IEM rack, etc.

While you are limited to the number of outputs the X/M console provides (16 with Ultranet), a DN4816O could work with a DL16 using the ultranet out to provide additional outputs.

I've seen some using them like a 16 channel split, with the drawback being it's not a true split, because the earliest tap point you can send is after the preamp on console.

You're thinking of HyperMAC (as opposed to SuperMAC, which is what Sony called the 100 Mbps version before it became an AES standard); strictly speaking, the 1 Gbps version has never been incorporated into the (royalty-free) AES50 standard, so "AES50" refers only to the 100 Mbps version.

Thanks, yes, you're right, it's SuperMac and HyperMac (I prefer the weird capitalization to be optional).

As pointed out by Helge, Midas uses the HyperMac in their larger consoles; I thought it was in all the consoles that can handle 96kHz sampling rate?

There was a paper by Midas describing the two formats and their differences, which I don't have on this computer and don't have time this week to look up.

One thing I was wondering and sort of alluded to: The X/M consoles' AES 50 can carry 48 audio channels each way. Is there any combination of use circumstances that uses that channel count to full capacity both ways? I can't think of any.

The reasons I chose the PS amps in the first place over the Danley :
I could use an amp per side (placed next to each stack), allowing for shorter/neater speaker cables runs and of course I could take the stack side opposite to the board using XLRs from the stage box outputs on that side. Now I will have to run long speaker cables to the farthest stack on stage from a more central position where the amps will be placed. Using the D snake outputs also allowed me to run mono subs by using 2 separate L and R feeds - board and Snake.

Just gotta make some small changes in layout.....

Great move! You will love the DNA amp.

Just set and forget.

No more worrying about tripping breakers or limiters being set correctly, etc etc.
Thanks Nathan....I am so looking forward to hearing the system with the Danley amp. I do believe I got the system sounding darn good with the Powersoft amps but using the amp designed for my system and having the presets ready to go is an exciting concept for me!

Hey guys.

Do any of you have one of these? What do you think of it? Pros? Cons?  A friend of mine says that it has some "weird" fader issues.  My Sweetwater guy was not a lot of help. He just said that it had some "kinks" that needed to be worked out.

Thanks.
Scott

I've got one. No such issues. Works great for "break-out rooms" - especially ones that may not be staffed 100% of the time.

Once set via the bluetooth app, simple fader control for more/less volume gets the job done. The more dangerous settings remain beyond the reach of untrained (un-bluetoothed) hands.

I've had similar conversations with guitar plays about about leaning their amp back on the amps built in kick back legs so they could actually hear their amp!

To that point, here's the best solution I've seen in awhile:

Now I have to work out a selling price for one of the Powersoft amps - I hate pricing gear to sell... Looks like they are $3500 - $3700 new now....WOW!

Amp prices are way up lately, over here a single LA12x is 80% of the price for a single Meyer Panther.
Who would have guessed that Meyer is the cheap option 5 years ago? ;D
