Title: M7CL v3.51 File Issue
Post by: Adam Robinson on April 09, 2011, 07:44:30 AM
Second M7 in two days right now and I'm having the same issue with files.

I have updated the firmware to 3.51.  I built a file on my computer in 3.51, saved it as a console file, and when I put it in the console, it did not see the file in the list although it saw my older M7 files.

I tried saving the current file off the console onto my USB stick and it also never showed up in the file list, although it shows up when I put the key in my computer.

Day two.  Console running 3.50.  File not showing up in list.  Updated console to 3.51.  File not showing up in list.

Any ideas?  I'd like to not have to rebuild a 48x20 monitor file!

Call off the guards.  It seems that the USB key I've been using in these consoles for years is no longer compatible.  Don't know why yet and don't have time to check yet, but I put the files on a new USB key and all was OK.

Phew.

I had the same problem trying to update the M7CL with my USB key. I tried with a different one and was able to update the console.
Then I tried loading a show and all was OK...
For no reason the key I was using before stopped working on the console. Go figure?
Hope this helps!

I had a similar issue a while back; several consoles started to not 'see' files on a stick I'd been using for years. Even files I'd JUST saved from the console, and they were visible on the same stick connected to a PC. My solution seemed to be removing a large number of extraneous files that had built up on the stick over the years. I was nowhere near the memory capacity of the stick, but there were a LOT of M7 files on it. I didn't test this in any way to prove the fix, but it's what worked for whatever reason, or maybe I've just been lucky since. Could anyone chime in and say definitively if there is a limit to how many files/folders the console can 'see'?

Don't put all your files in the root directory of your USB key. There's a limit to how many files can be in the root. After you hit that limit, the console won't read or write any more files to the root on that key.

No more than 512 files, but if the filenames are longer than the 8.3 "DOS" filenames, that number can be less. Simple solution, just create a subfolder and keep the files in there.

Now that made reading the board worthwhile today!  Thanks Andrew.
