Getting ready to purchase a couple of totems for my larger movers.
Do not have to be Tomcat or Global quality, they will only be used a few times yearly as most of my stuff gets hung.
Looking for inexpensive ideas. 3 to 5 feet tall is good, just want them off the floor and hate the look of milk crates! Hahahaha

7r Chinese Sharpy knock offs.
Similar to the Beam 260's talked about in the other thread that's going.
Had pretty good luck with them so far, but I keep them clean and continually checking for maintenance that might pop up.
Ounce of prevention goes a long ways with inexpensive stuff.

That's what I was going to guess, but the 7R lamp is popular these days and didn't want to make any assumptions. I wouldn't consider these fixtures to be large or heavy, so pretty much anything that can support the ~35 pounds and not tip over should be fine. Out of curiosity, what's wrong with Global Truss? From a volumetric standpoint it takes up less space than milk crates, has both base plates and top plates readily available, and generally looks nice - especially with an uplight in it. It's cheap, too. What do you normally hang these fixtures from? Also, how do you transport them? Many folks set moving lights on road cases, which should be close to your 3ft spec. and wouldn't require any additional equipment.

I have a 21x21 portable stage that has an aluminum top that raises up it is 8x20 and goes up 14ft. Front and rear decks fold down to form a square with a 8x8 drop that folds off of the back.
Had it built a few years ago got about 18000 invested and just starting to see a good ROI on it last summer season.
But anyways when it was built there are supports for roof every 4ft that we hang them on.
Been using a couple of chairs with the fixtures sitting on a piece of ply strapped down to get them off the floor on each side of the drum riser.
Just fishing to see what's out there.
I found a couple of collapsible ones on AMS that I thought are pretty neat great for trailer pack.

Why not kill two birds with one stone on this and get some proper roadcases, and then use them for setting fixtures on during the show? Many people do this, and depending on the show you can often take it even one step further with free advertising when your band/company name or logo is painted on the case. Sometimes you can get away with that, sometimes it’s out of place or not what the customer wants to see. Your mileage will vary.
I ask about your current hanging solution because if you already own trussing you’ll almost certainly want to buy something within family for this to maximize intercompatibility and flexibility, though that doesn’t seem to be the case here.
Cases and trussing aside, I’ve seen moving lights on everything from bar stools and instrument stands to assorted IKEA furniture. Ideally you want the fixture secured to the stand so that it can’t tip off or walk its way over the edge. Hope this helps!

It's a matter of growth and needs first as far as ROI on what I have.
I agree road cases are in order.
I have 4 units now as well as various other pieces I pack around.
Plan on adding more.
Cases will be soon.
Most of my other lighting gear is cased already.
As well as my sound gear.

If Global F34 or similar is too pricey, plywood or MDF "stage cubes" may be your answer. 24" or 30" cube, with cut-out handles, painted flat black. Also suitable for water bottles, harmonicas, etc. Make them strong enough for people to stand upon. If you have four matching cubes, you can put them together and you have a mini-riser. YMMV.

This is a great idea.
I have access to metal and welders also, I can see them doubling as ego boxes.
That's really a good thought.
With a little thought in the engineering I could also design them to fold flat for trailer packing, or leave them packed in the stage.

Cases work well for this. The small clubs we play typically don’t have room for dead storage, so we made use of two identical trunks for movers.

I use mini tripods I purchased off of Amazon. Totem trusses would have been too cumbersome and way too expensive. They have worked really well.
