Im looking into different sub options and I know I was a fan of the ev mtl 1x. My questions are does anybody know how the px2181 compares and also how the px2181 compares to the qrx218s and the tx2181.
Any opinions or experiences w any of the four would be great.

I have a bunch of the QRx218's and I have demo'd the Phoenix 2181's. The Phoenix stuff is definitely louder, but I like the sound of the QRx boxes better.

what about the QRX do you like better and what types of venues have you used them in?

The QRX will play lower than the Phoenix, but the Phoenix will get a great deal louder and throw better than the QRX. If you are trying to throw more than 50ft outdoors or 75-100ft indoors then get the Phoenix or a bunch of MTL1/2's

I regularly use PX2181 and MTL1-X both in the same venue, not at the same time!
I did A/B them when we took delivery of the PX2181's and there is a large difference between them. You can most certainly hear that they are a louder box and they are much more musical. The MTL1-X's seem to make a 50Hz rumble and nothing else, where as the PX2181's are a lot smoother and nicer.
In the summer the PX2181s were out a lot in different sized fields. car parks and other indoor venues. I did find that placement was crucial! They don't work particularly well by themselves, they need that extra pair for a bit more horizontal dispersion. They also need a fair amount of air to breath i.e. they don't work very well close to walls.
When they are in the correct position boy do you know about it! They do move a serious amount of air, throw along distance and are very punchy. They don't play very low but that is due to the design of the box. Don't try and get them to play lower because they don't really go any lower and it distorts the frequencies above!
Heres one massive bad point about them!!! They only have a 2.5" voice coil. EV very sneakily have kept that quiet, I'm pretty sure you cannot find that in the EDS. I only know because I baked a driver solid at a dance event. Opened her up and to my horror the drivers only had a 2/5" voice coil!!! I wasnt very impressed by this!
I am now very aware not to push them too hard with dance music going through them!
Overall I am pleased with them and shall be buying some more to compliment our EV RX rig.
