I would have posted a video but the words are so much better.  In the Pilot Hesseman's character Johnny Caravella is passed out at the broadcast board while a beautiful music version ** of Paul Anka's "Having My Baby" was playing. The program director comes in and tells Johnny about the format change and recites these lines:

“All right Cincinnati, it’s time for this town to get down! You got Johnny, Dr. Johnny Fever, and I am burning up in here. We’re all in critical condition, babies, but you can tell me where it hurts because I got the healing prescription here from the big KRP musical medicine cabinet. Now, I am talking about your 50,000-watt intensive care unit, babies!”

He was fired from his last job for saying "booger" on the radio, it was one of the running gags of the show so about 15 seconds into the record he opens the mic and yells "booger" It was really funny stuff at the time.

I enjoyed him in Head of the Class too.

** BM was actually a format in the 70's ,string orchestra covers of pop songs.  Some call it elevator music.  Think Blue's Brothers in the tax assessors office of Cook County while Girl From Ipanema plays in elevator, these stations would occasionally toss in Barry White's Love's Theme, an oldie from Percy Faith like Theme from a Summers Place boring as shit radio.

EDIT:  Oops.  Never mind, this was last year.  Not sure why I saw a story on it, though.

RIP Chick Corea, groundbreaking jazz innovator, at the age of 79.

I worked with him twice, though my role in both cases was rather minor.  One heck of a musician.  The most recent one was (I think) 2018, and he was still playing beautifully.

I have not either John.  One of my all time favorites and I never got to see live.  He was doing a two week residency at the Blue Note in NY a few years ago.  I begged some friends to make it a "boys" weekend and life got in the way and nobody seemed interested.  I deeply regret not going now.

That's  tough one.   Man had quite the career.

Chick's passing was as well.  Light As A Feather is one of those works I can turn to anytime.  IMO That was also some of Stanley Clark's best recorded bass work.  I saw Chick, Keith and Bill Evans each solo on successive nights.   I didn't want to touch my bass for days after.  You know the expression... I'm not worthy ...  inspiring and demoralizing at the same time.  I'd never be the bass player that each of those guys left hand was.  I got over it... ;-)

School Days has been one of my favorite SC albums for my entire life.  It is funny you mention him as I mentioned the Blue Note with Chick Corea.  Sometime in the 80's some friends and I drove from Jacksonville to NY as his brother, who was in a graduate music program had gotten a big gig and we wanted to see him.  Clarke was at the Blue Note and we also went to see him also.  I love the vibe, and how well that place sounds despite a lower ceiling than my house, and any excuse to go that club has been a lifelong obsession.

Rick Tuner- founder of Alembic; Grateful Dead/Wall of Sound tech.  https://tinyurl.com/56z3bdx6

The attribution in the linked article "creating the Grateful Dead’s Wall of Sound in the 70’s", is kind of generous.

The Wall is generally acknowledged to have been Owsley's idea with "Dan Healy and Mark Raizene of the Grateful Dead's sound crew, in collaboration with Ron Wickersham, Rick Turner, and John Curl of Alembic" (quoted from the current Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_of_Sound_%28Grateful_Dead%29))

Alembic was probably who built all the speaker boxes?

Looking in the link in Historyofconcertsound.org forum on these forums, there is a link to a good description of the system which seems to be somewhat official (http://www.dozin.com/wallofsound/), which says

"The concept and design of the current system/level was worked out by Bear, Dan Healy and Mark Raizene of the Deads sound and equipment crew, and by Ron Wickersham and Rick Turner of the Alembic sound company. The construction and regular maintenance is done at the Deads technical workshops by the people responsible for managing and transporting the system on the road. The design and construction of some special electronic components was done at Alembic, where John Curl is a consultant to the project"

So he was definitely a creator but not THE creator.

RIP.

Yep look at this lovely tribute from John Ford Coley -

From John Ford Coley…

Wow.  Don’t even know where to begin.  Jimmy Seals passed away today.  I spent a large portion of my musical life with this man.  We toured together, he and Dash invited us to sing on Seals and Crofts records, and we played with him for years. He was Dan’s older brother, it was Jimmy that gave Dan and me our stage name, he taught me how to juggle, made me laugh, pissed me off, encouraged me, showed me amazing worlds and different understandings on life, especially on a philosophical level, showed me how expensive golf was and how to never hit a golf ball because next came the total annihilation of a perfectly good golf club and the list goes on and on.  We didn’t always see eye to eye, especially as musicians, but we always got along and I thought he was a bona fide, dyed in the wool musical genius and a very deep and contemplative man.  He was an enigma and I always had regard for his opinion.  I listened to him and I learned from him.  We didn’t always agree and it wasn’t always easy and it wasn’t always fun but it definitely was always entertaining for sure.  Dan adored his older brother and it was because of Jimmy opening doors for us that we came to Los Angeles to record and meet the right people.  This is a hard one on so many levels as this is a musical era passing for me.  And it will never pass this way again as his song said.  He belonged to a group that was one of a kind.  I am very sad over this but I have some of the best memories of all of us together.  Rest In Peace Jimmy.  You and Dan finally get reunited again.  Tell him and your sweet momma hi for me.

"Judith Durham, Australian folk icon behind Oscar-nominated song 'Georgy Girl,' dies at 79.
The lead singer of the Seekers was considered a "national treasure.""

https://ew.com/music/judith-durham-dead-seekers-australian-folk-singer-georgy-girl/

Durham joined the Seekers in 1963, and the group soon rose to international fame with hits such as "I'll Never Find Another You" and "The Carnival Is Over." The track "Georgy Girl" was the title song for the 1966 Lynn Redgrave film of the same name.  n March 1967, the Seekers claimed a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for their performance at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, which was attended by 200,000 people — roughly one-tenth of the city's population at the time. The Seekers eventually sold 50 million records.

Durham left the group for a solo career in 1968 but returned to record with them throughout the 1990s.

"Our lives are changed forever losing our treasured lifelong friend and shining star," Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley, and Athol Guy, the surviving members of the Seekers, said in the statement, which also included a comment from Durham's sister Beverly Sheehan. "Judith's joy for life, her constant optimism, creativity, and generosity of spirit were always an inspiration to me," she said.

Showed me the (then) Digidesign boards in such a simple and direct way that I felt comfortable on them right away. The soul of Fleetwood Mac.  RIP Mrs. McVie.

Saw them in concert a few years ago, figured it would be a good show - long time fan.  It was a GREAT show!

She was awesome, and a great human.  Sadly I think we are going to see this more often as the bands of our youth succumb to old age. They were a little older than us so sadly they demarcate our next decades.

I ran monitors for him when he came through Dallas in 2017. Interesting guy. Can't say that I was familiar with the space rock genre prior to that event.

Peter Cooper, country music journalist and Grammy-nominated musician, died Tuesday, Dec 6, 2022, at the young age of 52. While he was fairly well known in Nashville and was friends with many big name players, I never knew of him or his music. I learned that we graduated from the same school. I started listening to his music, which I really like.

He did several albums with Eric Brace and one song in particular kind of gets me in the feels. It's written by Jon Byrd and is titled Silent Night (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8z5tGAfdds&t=6s).

Canadian Singer-songwriter Shirley Eikhard, who wrote "Something to Talk About" along with many other great songs.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/something-talk-songwriter-shirley-eikhard-dies-rcna62245 (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/something-talk-songwriter-shirley-eikhard-dies-rcna62245)
I had the good fortune to mix Shirley on a few occasions. She was a stellar musician, always had a great band and was just a joy to work with. RIP :(

Another addition; Harvey Jett, of Black Oak Arkansas passed away on Dec 21, 2022 at age 73.

The first big-time concert I attended was Grand Funk Railroad in Milwaukee. Opening act, to our pleasant surprise, was Black Oak Arkansas. We'd heard their music on KAAY AM radio's Beaker Street, out of Little Rock (all the way up to Wisconsin).
