Title: M7CL48 Function screen Sleep?
Post by: richard bryant on January 01, 2017, 04:07:44 PM
Hello,
I attempted to use a M7CL48 the other day at a rehearsal/broadcast room. the console is left on all the time and the last time i was in we set up a mix/monitor scene and saved it. Lucky for me it was still up and in place when i returned. the console was functioning i.e. the monitor and main outs were routed and working but there was no screen. i needed to make adjustments and ad a new monitor mix and without the screen i wasn't able. I tried everything i could think of to restore the screen(including powering down the console) to no avail. I don't know the board well enough to know whether there is a sleep mode for the screen. if there is I would appreciate knowing how to restore it. I have a feeling the screen has failed...

I would be pretty certain your screen has failed. I've had it happen before...  there is no sleep mode that I recall.

Yamaha is predominantly what we use and I have never encountered a sleep mode.

Take a bright flashlight and shine very close to the screen.  If you can see the display, it's possible the backlight has failed.  You still need a replacement but st least you can sort of see things if it is absolutely critical you do something with the console.

The screen itself may be fine, but the back light will fail over time. The service options are to replace the whole screen assembly, or, in some cases you can replace just the back light. I just replaced the back light in a PM-5D last month.

I've actually fixed a couple of these in the last year or so. There's a separate power supply for the high voltage for that backlight, and that seems like the most common failure. That's the INV card on the back of the display, though testing it is a little tricky since you have to disconnect a bunch of stuff to get at the display guts.
