Title: Total power needed for a small venue
Post by: chris georgiou on April 16, 2018, 08:03:35 PM
What do you guys use for the speaker/amp power calculations? Small lounge 47’L x 27W x 8’H with a DJ booth. 8 JBL AE 12 speakers and 2 JBL 15" Dual Subs.

It depends on what sort of SPL is needed.

A good way is to model for peak SPL, then subtract 15dB to get "an average SPL meter reading".

I meant determining the amp power I'll need for the room. Lounge/night club.

What is the program power rating for each speaker and sub?  Amps are determined by the speakers/subs; speakers are determined by coverage, as well as SPL, sound quality, and budget.

Amps are based on the speakers in the system, not on square feet or number of seats or anything silly like that.

Still not sure if it's amplifier "watts" your looking for or number of 120V dedicated power circuits?

For electrical power you could probably get away with as few as 3 for the installed gear, but you should have a quite a few additional for any stage areas for bands, DJ's, AV-jobs that bring their own gear.
