Hello,
I have a church hall that is looking for a sub integration. As of right now it has been a small portable system that I have brought in to support small bluegrass bands, but more dynamic stuff wants to be planed. As the portable package of my own is a fine solution that I have been using, they want to do something more permeant and simple with hardwiring and I greatly support that. Other groups use the space such as AA and Cub Scouts and use a mishmash of anything to boom boxes and car audio speakers in a box to make noise. This creates a mess of twin lead cable and other stuff always needing to put back as to not mess up the next group that might need it.
The sanctuary has a distributed sound system with some old JBL control 8 cabs that were mounted for areas now unused for the sound system so they have been repurposed. Those will be the current mains for this space. They seem to be loud enough for the hall and fit nicely in the small amount of space that is available. So for now that is the fix. In time that may get upgraded, but that will only happen with growth.
Most events are 150 people or less, and the space is maybe 30' by 60'-70' with a 10' drop celling. I haven't taken accurate measurements of the length yet. But from where I set up I can uncomfortably get a 50' cable to reach stage, so that is my estimation. The stage is about 20" and completely hollow. The subs as of right now have been decided to be put under it. I suggested this due to being hidden, "lockable", and not having to ever be moved. There are 3 holes for storage under the stage, think channels, that go full length so depth is not an issue. The width is 50" +/-, so nothing can really be over 48". The height is the limiting factor. Anything up 15.5" should work. The 3 holes are spread out under the stage, so cabs could either go together in the center or separate and be in the outside 2 maybe up to 16' apart.
After looking at some products the best I can find is the Danley TH-mini or the TH-212. A few others might fit the physical size, but they fail greatly in comparison to specs. Now I know that specs are a game and all, but I feel that after reading much about the products and their goals, fixing numbers isn't really important to them. It's getting the product right for the specific application. This is my problem. I also found that a EAW micosub will fit, but it sure seems like it just wouldn't be the right product, but I am still only just looking for physical size to put into my research category.
As far as the Danley products go, will a single TH-212 yield good results, or being a horn will they need to be used in multiples? I could also see messing around with more TH-mini to try and get some of the energy to radiate out from stage rather then back to the big hollow hole under stage. I can see where more smaller cabs might be a better solution then one big one. Any thoughts with the limited info I have provided?
I have been using a single JBL 4718x and it is more or less enough. The problem is the form factor of an 18" will just not work, and I not sure how to estimate how well the smaller sub products with 8" drivers that would fit might stack up. And I want to get a good pro box not some studio solution.
Any thoughts on subs under 15.5" on either height or width, with a frequency response of low 40hz and up and sensitivity of maybe 98db and up?

While you are correct when using normal horns, the tapped horn is different. It is designed to provide a smooth response down to the cutoff-even when used as singles. The only thing that multiple tapped horns get you is greater power capacity-more output and in some cases greater directivity (even more output).
The TH212 will go lower and louder than the TH mini-due to the greater sensitivity and greater power capacity.

Even though I have never worked with the Danley products, I have no doubt that the TH212 will be a great choice. I can't imagine one not keeping up with (and then some) the Control 8's:
