Title: Cheap (but new) COM Headsets - recommendations?
Post by: Andrew Broughton on May 20, 2022, 07:10:45 PM

These headsets around the $100 mark (or less). Anyone tried them?

Tom Com (https://www.ebay.com/itm/164807056754?hash=item265f441d72:g:J5EAAOSw3xJXn~WK) vs Pro Intercom (https://proaudio.com/pro-intercom-smh310-lightweight-single-ear-intercom-headset/) vs Glenford Sales (https://www.ebay.com/itm/113597674570?hash=item1a72f2f44a:g:ei4AAOSwXfNc-D6q)

Any others to consider? Just looking for decent value headsets to complete a bunch of COM I paid nothing for...

I have used the Pro Intercom headsets but not the others. Work fine and sound decent.
Pro has headset "refresh" kits for replacing worn ear pads and other headset parts but if you need a mic capsule, you are out of luck.

Thanks, Keith.
For years, many suppliers used to use the Pro Intercom (Previously "Production Intercom"), [cough] Christie [cough], but they always felt plastic-y and uncomfortable... Just wondering if these others are better or if the change in ownership of PI changed their product as well?

Still plastic... but low cost!

Thanks, Tim. The C1, while interesting, is not a configuration useful to me. No belt packs or push-to-talk buttons, and no info on the hub that I can find..
All the reviews are the same, and don't go into any of the details I need to know, like what's the latency, how to configure wired-to-wireless, configuring with multiple hubs, etc...
I've got an M1 set coming my way to try out so maybe I can do a detailed video once I figure that stuff out.

We use the Pro Intercom.  3 x stations each with a large strobe (strobes were an add-on).  We've had the units for about 6 years now.  They have worked perfect.  Even for one ear piece, the volume of the headsets get rather loud.  They actually have decent sound quality.  From what I recall, the head-sets have a fixed side for listening.  Though, this has never been a problem for us.  As well, they are somewhat comfortable to wear.  For the price, we've been very pleased.
