Title: Smart stationary fixtures
Post by: Jon Dees on January 10, 2019, 03:02:24 PM
I am looking for fixtures that don't need to move but need to be otherwise relatively full-featured. Color mixing, and zoom, with 'high' output - beyond the normal 12x10 watt or 19x15 watt wash fixtures. I see the Chauvet F-915FC is out there at this level. Anything else? Lots of ellipsoidals at this level, but not with the DMX-addressable zoom functions.

My room's fixtures are in a mostly inaccessible location so I like having most parameters addressable to minimize getting out the personal lift.

Seems like the next step down is the Elation Z175 or the 19x15 watt fixtures from Elation, Chauvet, Blizzard. Anything else out there I am missing?

Thanks.

Color mixing, and zoom, with 'high' output

It depends on your definition of "high output" and needs in general, but the Elation Fuze Series (as you mention) along with the Chauvet COLORado Solo Series both fit the bill.  Elation also makes 2 flavors of their Arena Par, both with zoom I believe and fitted with brighter LEDs than what you normally find on generic LED Pars.

Another piece of the equation will come down to the quality of light you desire.  Fixtures intended for stage and studio such as what you're mentioning will generally have a much higher quality of light, at a higher price of course.  The other question I have to ask is that if you want zoom, do you also want movement?  Eye-candy effects aside, for a fixed installation with difficult access to the fixtures I'd want to give the designer as much creative freedom as possible, so unless it's an aim/zoom/forget/come back in a decade situation, I'd at least consider a fully-fledged moving light and not just something with zoom, or lose the zoom and just get some high output static lights.  Hope this helps!

PLenty of Pars out there with zoom.

I use the Elation Fuze here and while they are awesome fixtures, I wouldn't put them in the "overly" bright category. Just kinda medium bright. I have the Fuze par 175 which is the brightes par they have and I use it for stage color. I also use the Fuze movers and the Z120 is about equal to the par, while the Z350 is double the brightness of either one of them. The Z350 is legit.

I use the Chauvet Colorado Solo1 and Solo2.
Love them.  Gives me more variability and control over the look on stage.
I'm a dealer if you want pricing, PM me.

If your room is inaccessible, it seems to me that moving would be desirable as well, no?  I use Chauvet Rogue R2 wash units that equal 575w Source Four Pars even in open white.  If you need more than that, Chauvet makes the Rogue R3 wash fixture with 37 15w elements.  You might want to check the price before you rule out needing pan/tilt capability.  For me, the R2 washes were not much more expensive than decent fixed pars.

I will need p/t in the future but not in this area.

This is a downlight over a fixed choir area. The integrator gave us 8 Martin rush par1s and 2 par 2 zooms. Just need to relocate those and replace the ten fixtures with more output. My budget this year may allow for 6 or 8 of the Chauvet 910s so I’m trying to decide if the beam angle is helpful and if that is enough. Seems like the step down that I could buy more of is the elation z175 but  it’s hard to tell without some math and drafting if the very different beam angle would fulfill the same role.

On the positive side anything I do will be brighter than what I have now.
