Title: Mix Wiz3 16:2 effects unit failure
Post by: Erik Jerde on August 22, 2013, 04:02:33 PM
Hey all, I've got a Mix Wiz3 16:2 in a video rack and was getting bad distortion on channels 1-8 both on the direct outs and when monitored through the stereo bus.

Ended up opening up the console to re-seat cables, but no change.  On a whim I pulled the effets board out of the console and that cleaned things right up.  Reinstalled it and the problem came back.

One additional data point.  With the fx board in the fx top and bottom LED indicators would pulse rhythmically.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this failure mode before?  Since the desk is out of warranty and I don't need fx in a video control room I'm just going to leave the fx board out.  I just find it really odd that the fx board would cause distortion on only the first 8 channels.

I don't know about the channel 1-8 problem, but the FX board may need to be reset.  Consult the manual for the procedure.  I think you hold down the FX select button while powering on the mixer.

Not sure this will help, it's mainly to reset the fx to factory settings is you have made changes through the editor.

"Resetting the effects presets To restore the factory default
presets hold down the SEL key while powering up the console. Make
sure you do this while the amplifiers are turned off. The 8 green
indicators flash in sequence followed by the BANK indicator flashing on
then off to confirm the reset."
