Title: new QSC digital mixer @ NAMM 2011!
Post by: Aldo "hucchio" Chiappini on November 15, 2010, 12:24:45 PM
Hi there,
have anyone hear about a new digital mixing desk from QSC?
Is this just a buzz? Anyone know more information about it?
Some people talked me about a small size mixer in a very very cheap range price.
Listen, the tecnology probably issue from a QSC Matrix called Q-Sys system, the most powerful matrix gear now in the marketplace, finally this mixer have a lot of chancee to be a real competitive.

Bye
Aldo

I'd have much preferred them release a DSP amplifier, but apparently the legendary amplifier manufacturer really doesn't care about amps anymore. Rolling Eyes

Ahahah, that's true!
First they try to come in a loudspeaker bizz and now they launch a digital mixer.
So, the good news is the price...perhaps very very challenging.

Ops, just to get it light I'm not form QSC company...Wink

If anyone knew anything solid about it they probably couldn't talk about it.

I'm sure QSC is still worried about amplifiers but A) they already have a healthy market share in conventional amps, and B) they needed to protect their flanks from amplifier business lost to powered speakers. What better way to do that than be the one selling powered speakers?

The move into digital consoles is less obvious to me... perhaps just opportunistic, where some guys with a design(?) and some name recognition(?) needed a deep pockets partner with distribution.  The digital console business has been difficult to master since it began, and it will not be any easier now. (I am still predicting that mixers will become obsolete with all electronics integrated into powered speakers using wireless microphones that will communicate directly onto a digital network... but probably not in my lifetime.)

EDIT/ this may also be a way to acquire access to more DSP technology, and position themselves for a future when systems are more integrated. Not just a collection of best of breed parts thrown together. /edit

Wasnt there some chatter about a QSC/Mackie digital mixer in the works?

This was reported a couple of months ago;
a co-development with Greg Mackie & Peter Watts (both ex-Mackie, but Greg is actually still Mackie   Rolling Eyes ).

QSC Audio Products has announced a co-development partnership with M&W Pro Audio to create a series of digital audio mixing consoles.

Greg Mackie and Peter Watts are, respectively, the M and the W in the organizations’ name..

I'm sure that Mark Levinson would agree with that

I actually attended his bankruptcy auction, and bought one of his Sound technology distortion analyzers, but somebody ended up buying the whole corporate remains intact with a single higher bid than the entire auction raised.

I got a clue that it was a bad idea to name my company Roberts after seeing an old Roberts tape recorder and thinking ew... The music industry is full of examples of people losing control of their own name.  Often they don't leave the industry, or make the same mistake twice, (mainly because they can't).  Rolling Eyes  I won't bother to list examples.

PS: That said I've been known to nickname stuff Johnny____, like my world famous Johnny Beer.

Hi John

“I got a clue that it was a bad idea to name my company Roberts after seeing an old Roberts tape recorder and thinking ew.”

Now see, a rose is a rose or some poetic spray fill injected here.
I spent a lot of time dreaming about / wishing for a Roberts 770 when I was a teen and they were always out of reach.

I like the label haha.  I got a bottle of hot sauce from a friend that had a good label, “Ass in the tub” with a guy sitting in a tub of water.
Very Hot stuff, tongue penetrating, fiery hot with just a slight trace of flavor.
Funny too, the guy that gave it to me had some special hot sauce he said was “really really hot” where the tub stuff was pretty mild by his taste.
Best,
Tom

I know a Doctor with my last name.

I'd have to change my name if I went into that profession!

I wonder if it would have been any easier to reach if it has the name "Akai" on the outside. All the inside parts did.

Mac, say it aint so,  my 40 odd year old dreams are crumbling haha.
In my Jr and Sr year of High school I worked at a TV store that sold Panasonic (before Technics). I was slowly able to pay the store and get a Panasonic reel to reel, an RS736 or something as I recall.
Best,
Tom

I do some low-voltage work for Kroger stores and one of them is managed by Mr. Mister.  His wife Mrs. Mister manages another Kroger store.

Speaking of funny names, I used to work at a music store where one of the owners was regularly receiving a page over the intercom that said "you have Manley Cox on line 2."

Stanley tools recently ran a fathers day promo offering to personalise tools sold to people called "Stanley" by printing their name on the tool.
