My church has a couple of low-end EV RE2 receivers to go with a lav and a handheld transmitter. The receivers came with quarter-wave antennas. I have a spare set of Audio Technica half-wave antennas for the same frequency band. In an effort to improve reception, can the AT antennas be used with the EV receivers instead of buying EV half-waves?

No problem using AT antennas on the EV receivers.......except most of the EV wireless receivers I have worked with use a screw on version of the BNC connector not the twist lock version that most everyone else uses.

That's called a TNC connector, also used on the Telex BTR systems (EV and Telex have the same parent company). You can buy adapters at Digi-Key and other reputable suppliers https://www.digikey.ca/short/p7dwmq (https://www.digikey.ca/short/p7dwmq)

While back I had to get a handfull of those to incorporate
some EV wireless into a new distro system.

Getting a bit more gain from the half wave antennas may not necessarly improve reception. Can you not get full scale on the RSSI meters? Maybe you have other issues.
Stronger antennas means they will likey find more junk out there and raise your noise floor. It all depends. Of course I guess it would also be easy to switch back ;)

A dipole(half wave) is a far better antenna design than a ground plane(quarter wave) specially when the ground plane cannot be guaranteed. As far as I know the half wave and quarter wave should have very similar gain, I doubt he wants to replace the antenna due to needing more gain.
You will likely get better reception with the half wave antenna than with the quarter wave purely due to physics.
