I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm 90% sure this is a stupid question, but I'd like to be 100% sure (at least if it is a stupid question, the answer should be pretty straight-forward):
Does digital wireless modulation make a difference when it comes to choosing antenna distribution? Are there characteristics of some RF amplifiers that would make them suitable for traditional FM signals but not for the digitally-modulated ones used by, for example, the ULX-D system?

In practice, no.

The notable exception (currently, at least), being Sennheiser 9000.
Not because of the digital modulation, but because the Rx 'communicates' with the antennae over the RF cable, and a normal distro blocks this return path. Gearhouse desgined some custom ones for use in mixed environments, but normally you'll have to give the 9000 series its own dedicated (and special) antennae
