Title: DMX Lighting Control Application Software
Post by: Steve-White on March 09, 2019, 06:18:59 PM
Hey guys & gals.

I'm setting up a DJ system and need to help with lighting.  Got the DMX thing figured out enough to program controllers.  I have a simple ADJ for around the shop and backup and a Chauvet obey 40 & an obey 70.  6 moving heads and several other fixtures to control.  Want 32 channel capability.

Also picked up an ADJ mydmxRM rack mount controller.  The software MyDMX 3.0 isn't much on the intuitive side for me.

Realization is that I need laptop control, or a controller that can take program downloads.  If a stand alone controller dumps at a gig ya need a backup.  Takes too long to program a decent light show to risk loosing the program.

So, what's a good laptop application that will run on Win 7 64, or Win 10?

Thanks!

Onyx Obsidian and an Enttech compatible controller.  My experience with QLC + was frustrating.

Not sure what you mean here.  The programmed scenes are saved on the computer, gmail, etc.
The backup scenario is universal.

Funny, when I read the first sentence the first suggestion that came to mind was MyDMX3. I found it a great solution for DJs.

I'll second the Onyx Obsidian. It was Martin software until not too long ago. Elation bought it and is doing great things with it. You'll be seeing a lot of updates coming for it soon. It's free to download and play around with. I highly suggest going through the tutorial videos to learn as it may not be initially intuitive. Once you play with it a bit it becomes very intuitive.

Good luck!

So far I've gotten going pretty well with Chauvet Show Express.  For now it works, may venture out later and try others.

Thanks for the reply's.

Show express is great for installs.  It is near impossible to busk on.  There is no concept of a focus palette to quickly refocus a show for a room.

Something I don't have any awareness of at this point.  I understand your point and agree it's something that would be really needed.

Any recommendations?

Thanks for comments.

Just wondering about ADJ MYDMXGO app?  The reviews look pretty questionable.  Is any anyone having luck with it?  Please elaborate any experience with it or similar apps.  I’m trying to find an app that I can run from stage while playing guitar?

If you're looking for an Ipad app, look at Luminair.
You can set a lot of scenes that appear as buttons.
You can take a pic of the look and apply it to the button, as well as name it.

I have looked at Luminaire as a possible choice.  I am now using QLC+ with my MacBook.  I would like not to bring a laptop and an iPad?  Does Luminaire require a laptop to see up a WiFi connection?

You'll need a wifi access point for the Ipad control and an ethernet to DMX converter (DMX King, Enntec), but no laptop.

I am have an ENTTEC Open DMX USB 512-Ch Non-Isolated DMX Interface now.  Will that work with Luminair?

I've used the ODE(what you have) and ODEmk2 successfully.
The box is just an ethernet to DMX converter, so any of these type of devices should work.
The processing is being done by the Ipad.
