Title: elation parts are expensive
Post by: (Brian) Frost on January 14, 2013, 03:01:26 PM
so i have a stagesetter 8 with a bad fader and one with the 3300mf cap that died in the power section and am missing a psu which is just a 12v psu.  Since a cap should be $1, fader $3, and psu $9, I was shocked to find that american dj is selling them for $5, $10, and $28 respectively... gonna have to look for alternate sources of replacement parts or quit buying american dj junk.

You'll find the same pricing from most manufacturers. Unless you're a dealer the prices are always outrageous. I will buy faders from them, as I want the exact match, but normal components and power supplies are always significantly lower if you buy generic replacements. Try ordering parts from High End or Martin.

at least the high end or martin faders are quality faders to begin with.  Ive paid a lot more for an audio fader that was of high quality but a wall wart for $30?

Same pricing discrepancy with companies like Yamaha, Casio, Digitech, etc. I rarely buy OEM parts if an off-the-shelf item will do. They're not in the business to sell parts, so they mark them way up to justify the cost of actually providing them. I'm not defending the practice, just that is fairly common.
At one point companies like High End, Martin, ADJ, etc actually treated customer service like...well, customer service. Now they have figured out that they need to make a profit from it.
