Andrew Duhon "Songs I Wrote Before I Knew You"
Fantastic album. Real, personal, heartfelt americana songs.
-
The last few days? Sirius channel 7 (70s) in the car..
Heard American Top 40 from 1/27/1973 the other day. Where were you 40 years ago? It brought it back for me in Miami... Top songs: Superstition, You're so Vain, Crocodile Rock, Your Momma don't Dance, Me and Mrs Jones... one tune from some guy named Elvis was mixed in there.
-
Mostly Sirius ch70 (Bluesville) or 56? (Prime Country) in the car.

How The West Was Won. Great live compendium of Zep thru the ages.

Lots and lots of Norman Blake at home. I have also been hunting through some of the concert shows on Netflix. Recently watched a Tom Waits concert.
In the car I have been listening to a live show of Crooked Still from the Freight and Salvage.
This weekend I am back on the road, will probably fall back onto the 70's outlaw country while driving.
-
I have a Rape Me (Nirvana) station on Pandora going right now. It's actually quite good!

Something I just found recently:
Very nice coverversions of originally boring pop songs:

Recently I went back and picked up a cd of Replacements B-sides. I found the album at Cheapo here in Minneapolis. I think the album is called 'Sucking Wax'. I was told it was an import. I like hearing the progression of songs when they were still being written and tweaked to the final product. There are about 3 versions of Can't Hardly Wait on there. Good stuff. well...less good, more interesting.

Ahh. Piedmont blues...
More of that in bluegrass than most people realize.
How about a little delta blues, one being played live for the first time and the other a Booker White standard.

Planetary Blues - a (blues, obviously) group out of Chicago. One of the members is family to a friend of mine. I picked up their CD from her on a recent visit, and am loving the guitar work. Makes me wonder how much of that sound my new archtop could make...if someone else were playing it.

Tonight's dive into the vinyl pile brought up Deodato's Artistry. I wish I'd been at the concert it was recorded at. Who else puts Maurice Ravel between a strut and a jive?
Across the digital divide, Bonnie Raitt's Slipstream. I particularly like her Reggae-esque cover of Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down the Line." Bonnie just gets better and better.
Si Kahn's Courage is in the queue.

Karen Carpenter drum solos. WOW ! she could really play !

even dug out Bob Seger last night.

I was out in the shop tonight packing for a gig tomorrow: listened to Paul Chamber's and John Coltrane's High Step from Blue Note on scratchy old vinyl. The recordings are from 1955 and 1956. Still sounded great, inspiring work.
I finally found a good place for my record player and have been enjoying a bunch of great music pressed in the 60s and 70s.

Been listening to Grusin Ritenour Project's recording of West Side Story and then some Oscar Peterson.
I'm now listening to Miles Davis "Kind of Blue". Never been a big fan but I put it on every few years. I find it depressing but there is some nice solos.
I think tomorrow will be a classical day.

I just found this beautiful video and sound recording of the Danish National Symphony orchestra performing movie soundtracks from spaghetti westerns. This one is from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly with a full orchestra, large choir, and two sopranos in a duel between good and evil. Hint, one of them is wearing 6-shooter earrings. Not only is this a great performance, the microphone placement and technique was perfect. Now I've got to watch the entire movie. :)

Mostly Sirius ch70 (Bluesville) or 56? (Prime Country) in the car.
56 is The Highway. Prime Country is 58. Much less repeats on the latter, due to there are lots more songs from the late '80s, '90s and early 2000s than there are heavy rotation current charting singles. I like Outlaw too, but sometimes it just gets too weird.
