Hey All,
So how many of you have business cards? Are they still relevant in today's world? I know that they are only like $20 for 500, but is it $20 well spent?
I'm just asking because I was thinking about getting new ones made up and this bizarre thought crossed my mind. I don't know maybe all the rain here has made my brain moldy.

We usually put a few out in a little card holder at FOH for events we supply to, we've gotten a few leads out of that alone. We also keep some on hand to give out if we run into someone in the wild, that landed us a recurring screen on the green gig. So yeah, I'd say they're definitely still relevant and $20 well spent even if they last you for a few years.

I've found that tons of people ask for your card, but very few follow-up on it. I always carried 10-15 of them in my gig bag, and without fail, at nearly every single gig I'd get asked for a card (or two). Maybe led to a few gigs/calls as a result.
The worst "ROI" on handing out cards was at a festival 3-4 years ago. Had people coming up left and right, asking for cards and complimenting us on the production. I ran out of my cards, so we handed out at least 15 or so. Zero calls afterward.
Given the low cost, it's worth having them. I always spent a little extra on my cards - thick stock, double-sided printing, full color, matte finish (easier to write on).

I agree & have similar experiences with Steve and Taylor.
A business card is good to have. Don't expect a ton of business from them.
Spend $50 and get the extra nice features for the cards. Makes them memorable/durable.

I find them useful to scribble other information, such as when someone runs into your trailer... ???

I print a few on Avery card stock, just in case.
Spending a little more for some tasteful vinyl stickers with logo and website on them and sticking to cases, wedges, etc. probably offers better ROI. They'll show up in photos posted on the interweb.

We invested in some CNC-cut stencils with various sizes/iterations of our logo for spraying our cases. Got them made on some thick plastic sheeting so they'll hold up forever.

I kinda cheated since my day job is at a printing company with large format equipment, but you should be able to go to any sign shop and get something similar made so long as they have a flatbed cutter. I'm not at our shop, but I seem to remember they were around 18-20pt (or 15-20mil) PVC material, I'll double check when we load out for an event later this week.

Business cards, gotta have them or you look like a schmuck. They sit around in people's lives and occasionally send business your way.
Spend a couple extra bucks to make them nice. Matte finish is great.

I have the three layer lux cards from moo.com They are like 35 bucks and layered so very thick and cool offset edge look. If nothing else they are great for cutting out lines. Perhaps someone will see one as the plate is passed and I will get some work.

I ended up ordering some really nice cards thinking that, hey, it might bring in something. So I will see what happens. If nothing else, I will throw one into one of those drop in your business card jars and win a free lunch drawing at a local eatery

We used to have logo bottled water, I've forgotten exactly why. But it turns out that your company looks kind of shabby if there's trash with your logo left scattered at a show site.

We staple cheap ear plugs to a card and give em out to staff at school DJ events.

I like it. I usually have a jar of earplugs available at FOH for folks who think it is too loud. Not only is a nice courtesy, but it is arguably a defense to hearing damage claims.
