Title: Danley system, PG-J3 vs J3 (New system advice please)
Post by: DarinBradfield on June 04, 2018, 07:51:41 AM
Good day. This is my first time posting here and am needing some advice/pointers.

Overview of current setup
-----------------------------
Currently we are using a DAS Line array. We have a total of 16 x Aero12a(8 a side) and 8 x LX218 sub woofers. Currently that is all being sold off. Pretty much what ever we choose needs to be able to replace that current system.

Our usual type of event is DJ's or a band on a open field (Rugby field 100x50m). We usually(95%) of the time have a stage of 10m x 8m, and then pa wings. The DAS aero 12A array is usually flown in these towers(7m in height). We stack the subs in front of the stage. The aero 12A are all active and we use a Powersoft x4 to power all the subs, running at 2 ohms per channel, 2600w per cab. Each LX218 is rated at 2000w, would like to give them more power, unfortunately that was all that we could afford at the time.

The Plan forward
-------------------
Currently we are purchasing a pair of Danley PG-J3 speakers, These we are planning on hanging next to our stage just as we did before with the Aero12a. Can any one tell me the difference between the standard J3 and the PG-J3. I see the PG uses 12" drivers instead of 15" drivers, but i also see that it is slightly more efficient(111 db vs 110 db) and does go slightly lower (50hz vs 70hz). But besides those two differences, are there any other differences? Sound Quality, How many people it can cater for, ect?

As for subwoofers we have been looking at many of the Danley subwoofers. BC415, BC218, DBH218. Currently weight and size doesn't bother me to much, I have quite the young crew and moving speakers is their job, not mine. (Getting to old to move speakers)

How many of each would you recommend to replace my current line subwoofers(8 x DAS LX-218), and how many of each would you recommend to keep up with the PG-J3's

Currently we have two amplifiers, both of which are Powersoft, currently own 1 x x4 and 1 x x8. Ideally don't want to sell them off as we would take to much of a knock on them currently.  My current thinking was to drive the two J3's off the X8 and then run some subs off the X4. We run them all on 3-phase power so supplying power to them is not a problem, just hope they can keep up with the demands of the speakers.

I have spoken to the local Danley agent and he has been very helpful. Just looking for some more input from the rest of the world. Currently we don't have any J3's in the country so is pretty much a first for myself and the rep.

Some random questions, what speaker cable would you recommend for the J3's?
What cross section?
Maximum length, eft.
I would ideally like my tops and subs cables interchangeable if possible.

Thanks for all the help.

Kind Regards
Darin Bradfield

I have heard the BC218 and it's KILLER!
For DJ application, I would suggest 3 subs to each J3.
It will outrun your DAS by a mile.
Ivan from Danley might chime in with a thought.
Shortest cable runs possible with the largest gauge you can fit into the connector.
